On Saturday, June 27, 2020 at approximately 1210 hours I was dispatched to 831A West Ave (Cartersville Beverage) in reference to a report of a shoplifting of a bottle of 1800 Tequila that just occurred.
As I neared the scene, the complainant advised dispatch that the male was seen running toward Old Mill Rd on Henderson Drive. The male was described as a white male with a tear drop tattoo, short hair, wearing dark shorts, a hat and a white tank top. The male was observed by officers running in the rear of [300 block] Old Mill Road, near apartment [30 block].
I responded to the area of that apartment and was advised by by-standers that a male matching the description of the suspect had been seen running into apartment [30 block].
I made contact with the resident, Mr. [REDACTED], who gave consent to search the residence. A white male was located in the bathroom, hiding behind a door. The male was observed to have short hair, a hat, a teardrop facial tattoo and dark shorts. The male was identified as Mr. Jordan Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was detained in handcuffs. Mr. Thompson was advised of his Miranda Rights, to which he stated he understood and still wished to speak with officers.
Mr. Thompson stated that he had been in an argument with his father and wanted a drink. Mr. Thompson admitted to stealing a bottle of 1800 Tequila. Mr. Thompson stated that upon his flight from the scene, he threw the bottle somewhere along Henderson Drive.
Contact was made with the store employee, Mr. [VICTIM #1]. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that he observed Mr. Thompson near the 1800 Tequila rack, and then observed Mr. Thompson run out the door. When Mr. [VICTIM #1] pursued Mr. Thompson outside, he observed Mr. Thompson to be holding a bottle of 1800 Resposado Tequila. Mr. [VICTIM #1] stated that the store did wish to press charges.
The bottle of Tequila was found to be valued at approximately $27.00. Mr. Thompson was placed under arrest for Theft by Shoplifting (M). Mr. Thompson was handcuffed behind his back. The handcuffs were checked for proper fit and double locked. Mr Thompson was searched incident to arrest with no contraband found. Mr. Thompson was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle and transported to the Bartow County Jail without incident.
The rear of my marked, issued patrol vehicle was searched at the beginning of shift, as well as before and after transport with no contraband found. A copy of the warrant was added to the case file. The area in which Mr. Thompson stated that he threw the bottle was searched but it was unable to be located. The entire incident was recorded on my department issued body worn camera. No further.
