On this date and time, I was patrolling the area of Rome Hwy 411 Westbound near Harris Rd. Rome, Ga., when I observed a black passenger car in the right lane failing to maintain its lane of travel. This vehicle bumped the white fog line, to the right, several times, then it drove into the grassy shoulder area and then back into it’s lane of travel. I initiated the traffic stop.
I approached the driver / Offender / Austin Mills and I advised him why I stopped him. I asked him where he was coming from and he stated ” work and I am just tired.” I asked him for his drivers license and he handed it to me.
I ran his drivers license information and found that he had a suspended license for a DUI First, violation date 7/26/20, suspension date 10/19/20 with no serve date. Dispatch confirmed this information. After running his tag information, it came back with an expired registration.(expired 6/12/21)
I went back to Mr. Mills and asked him to step out of the vehicle. I took him into custody for Driving on a Suspended license, Expired Registration, and Failure to Maintain lane. I made several attempts to contact a family member to come pick up the vehicle. I finally spoke with his father, who was en-route to pick up the vehicle. Upon his arrival, I released the vehicle to him.
I transported Mr. Mills to the Bartow County Jail for processing. While at the jail, I served him with a copy of DDS form Notice of License Suspension and took his drivers license at this time.
