On Monday, June 13, 2022, at approximately 0435 hours, I responded to 1204 West Avenue (Citgo Gas Station) in reference to a theft that just occurred. Prior to my arrival, Bartow County Dispatch advised the suspect left with lottery tickets and was driving a Gray Hyundai Sonata.

Upon my arrival, I made contact with the complaint/employee. Complainant stated she was on a smoke break outside of the business when the suspect, Ms. Dejuana Jones, came outside and told Complainant she was getting a fountain drink. Ms. Complainant stated she knows Ms. Jones because Ms. Jones is a regular customer at the business.

Complainant stated she began to watch Ms. [JONES] through the window because she was told Ms. Jones had taken lottery tickets in the past. Complainant stated Ms. Jones started to get a fountain drink, turned and pulled at a roll of “Fiery 5’s” lottery tickets, continued to get her fountain drink, then turned again and ripped the lottery tickets off. Complainant stated Ms. Jones placed the lottery tickets under her right armpit. Complainant stated she attempted to confront Ms. Jones but stated Ms. Jones denied taking the tickets. Complainant stated patrons are allowed free fountain drinks when playing the game machines. It was determined Ms. Jones took 4 “Fiery 5’s” tickets worth approximately $5.00 a ticket.

I observed on security footage of the incident provided by Complainant. I observed Ms. Jones getting a fountain drink behind the counter, pull at a roll of lottery tickets, go back to getting the fountain drink, then turn and rip the tickets and place them under neath her right armpit. I observed Complainant talking with Ms. Jones about the tickets. I observed Complainant then walk out of the store with the tickets still stuffed underneath her arm. The security footage provided was placed into evidence.

A local search of Ms. Jones showed an address of [50 BLOCK] Dodson Drive SW. BCSO deputies responded to the address and were able to locate Ms. Jones in the driveway. I arrived on scene and read Ms. Jones her Miranda Rights in which she agreed to speak me. Ms. Jones stated she did not have the lottery tickets and left them on the property. Ms. Jones stated she did not leave the property with the tickets.

A GCIC check of Ms. Jones license and vehicle registration showed an address of [100 BLOCK] North Railroad Street. Ms. Jones stated she lives at [50 BLOCK] Dodson Road and stated her brother lives there. I attempted to call and make contact with the occupants but no one came to the door nor answer the phone. Due to not being able to verify that Ms. Jones lived at the residence, Steele’s Towing arrived on scene to tow the vehicle.

Ms. Jones was placed under arrest for Theft by Taking (M). Ms. Jones was handcuffed with her hands behind her back. The handcuffs were checked for proper fit and double locked. Ms. Jones was searched incident to arrest with no contraband located. Ms. Jones was transported to Bartow County Jail without incident. My marked issued vehicle was checked before and after each transport with no contraband located.

The incident was captured on my body worn camera.

Nothing further.
