On Friday August 5th, 2022 at 1427 hours, I was dispatched to [30 BLOCK] Wyndham Ct in Cartersville in reference to a physical domestic in progress.

Upon arrival I met with I met with Mekaija Smith who stated her and her brother [VICTIM #1] were in a physical altercation. She stated she slammed [VICTIM #1]’s car door and he got upset with her arguing with her. She said then they came inside and she threw a plate at him. As Mekaija is explaining the situation to me, I noticed a kitchen knife in her pocket. I secured the knife in my patrol car while I was investigating the situation. She said she had a knife, because she told him she was going to slash his tires. Mekaija stated during the altercation while outside, [VICTIM #1] threw her to the ground and then she started punching his driver side window of his car.

I then spoke with [VICTIM #1] about the altercation and he stated she was going through some issues with family problems. He said when they got home from the store, she slammed his car door. [VICTIM #1] said when they entered the residence, she went into the kitchen and started throwing items towards him. He said he then went outside and she came outside with a kitchen knife in her hand with the blade facing towards him. He stated it was by her side and she started walking towards him in a fighting manner. [VICTIM #1] said she never made any threats to harm him, but he was walking backwards away from her because he did not want to get injured. [VICTIM #1] stated when he pasted his car, she realized she couldn’t get to him and she started punching his driver side door window with a closed fist. He stated he then shoved her to the ground, because she started punching his window.

I then talked to the older brother [WITNESS #1] who was a witness to the altercation and he stated when they got home Mekaija threw a plate towards [VICTIM #1]. He said even [VICTIM #1] threw items back towards Mekaija. He stated Mekaija did have a knife in her hand and was walking towards [VICTIM #1]. [WITNESS #1] said Mekaija did punch [VICTIM #1]’s window and [VICTIM #1] did push her to the ground while she was punching the window. [WITNESS #1] said he did observe both parties in the altercation that occurred.

I then placed Mekaija under arrest for Simple Assault-FVA and placed her into handcuffs. They were doubled locked for safety. Mekaija was then seated into the back of my car. I then transported Mekaija to the Bartow County Detention Center without incident Mekaija was then turned over to the jail staff.

I took a warrant for Simple Assault – FVA for Mekaija because she walked towards [VICTIM #1] with a kitchen knife and it placed him in fear for his life.
