On 11/12/2021 at 0341 hours, I was conducting a routine patrol on the Carrollton 166 Bypass. I observed a silver Hyundai Sonata (GA Tag- REDACTED) with only one functioning headlight. I proceeded to get behind the vehicle to run the license plate when the vehicle started failing to maintain its lane. I then activated my emergency blue lights and began calling out the traffic stop.
The suspect continued at the same rate of speed, so I informed other units that we were still moving, and the driver was possible under the influence. I began to close the distance and prepared to conduct a PIT maneuver for the safety of the citizens of Carrollton. At this time, the vehicle turned on its hazard lights and began slowing down, pulling to the left side of the roadway.
I then approached the vehicle and began speaking to the driver Tyler Cranston. Note that there was a strong over of an alcoholic beverage coming from Tyler’s breath, and his face was flushed red with glassy watery eyes.
I then asked Tyler to step out of the vehicle to ensure he wouldn’t take off and endanger any other pedestrians or motorists. I asked Tyler where he was coming from, and he said Savanna and was heading to Newnan. I then asked Tyler if he had anything to drink tonight, and he said yes. Tyler then agreed to do field sobriety evaluations to ensure he was safe to drive, and he said yes.
I then informed Tyler that he was under arrest for DUI and placed him in handcuffs, checking them for proper fit and double locking them. I read Tyler the Georgia implied consent for suspects under 21. Tyler denied implied consent. I then escorted Tyler to the Carroll County Jail turning him over to the jail staff.

· DUI less safe OCGA 40-6-391A1
