I responded to a call about a person with a gun at the Chatham Area Transit station located at 610 W Oglethorpe Ave. Dispatch advised that the caller had called and stated that “you know where I am” and “someone is following me”. The caller also said that there was a gun then disconnected with the call taker. The call taker tried calling them back but the subject hung up on them whenever they tried to call back.

As I responded to the location on W Oglethrope Ave I observed a female proceeding East from the bus depot. I do not recall ever being dispatched to a call involving her but she frequently approaches me and curses at me and other officers, calls us the fake police and other things to harass, impede or obstruct the performance of our duties. She had done this previously on this shift while I was at MLK Jr Blvd and Zubley St.

When Ofc Dubois and I arrived at the bus terminal we searched the area but nobody in the area told us that they had called or knew of the call. I then called the phone number back and someone answered. I identified myself by name and as a Savannah Police officer and the person on the other end of the call, a female began to curse at me and said “I didn’t call your stupid a*s”. I recognized the voice as that of the female that I had seen walking on W Oglethorpe Ave.

I went to make contact with the female who was still at W Oglethorpe Ave approaching Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. I stopped to make contact with the female and she said “I didn’t call you” and tried to keep walking off. I detained the woman and called the number from the 911 call again and one of the two phones that the female possessed rang.

The female who was not found to be in possession of a gun or being followed by anyone was secured in my patrol vehicle. She began talking about an [REDACTED] person, and Ofc Dubois said that he had just before been dispatched to a report of a suicidal person that supposedly had a gun to their head at [500 BLOCK] Jefferson St.

He said that hey tried to make contact by phone several times with the subject but after the initial call the subject would hand up much in the same manner that the female had for the person with the gun call that we were on. I was able to find the female’s Georgia Identification card which identified her as Courtney Brown.

Ms Brown was arrested and charged with abuse of the 911 system and false report of a crime. She was transported to CCDC for further processing.
