On 12/2/2022 at 00:49, I was responded to [6800 BLOCK] Skidaway Rd Apt [REDACTED] in reference to a report of a domestic with injuries. Dispatch advised that the caller had an open line and was not responding to the call taker. After the caller, later identified as [VICTIM #1], hung up the phone there were no answers on the call back.
Upon my arrival, Ofc Zimmerman and I approached apartment [REDACTED] and made contact at the front door. I pulled out Ms. [VICTIM #1] and her son, [REDACTED], out of the residence. Ms. [VICTIM #1] reported that Michael Houston is the father of her son and physically harmed her prior to our arrival.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] informed me that Mr. Houston was drinking throughout the day and when she came to the residence to lay down with [REDACTED], Mr. Houston began to speak with her inside of her room. Ms. [VICTIM #1] reported that Mr. Houston began to speak poorly about her mother that died and stated that her mother is the only reason she has her belongings.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she brought up that she took care of Mr. Houston’s mother for a period. Ms. [VICTIM #1] explain that when she brought up that she took care of Mr. Houston’s mother, Mr. Houston became angry. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she called Mr. Houston a section eight baby after he spoke ill of her mother.
After Ms. [VICTIM #1] called Mr. Houston a section eight baby, he grabbed her throat as she was laying in her bed with [REDACTED] in her arms. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that Mr. Houston used both hands to squeeze her throat. Ms. [VICTIM #1] described the pressure used by Mr. Houston to squeeze her throat as a 10 out of 10.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that white he was squeezing her throat, Mr. Houston yell that she was lying about his mother and that he was going to kill her. Mr. Houston shook Ms. [VICTIM #1] as he strangled her. Ms. [VICTIM #1] explained that she was strangled for about 15 seconds but was not sure exactly how long it lasted.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she could not breath when Mr. Houston was squeezing her throat and then transitioned to using both his hands to over her nose and mouth so that she was unable to breath. Ms. [VICTIM #1] described the pressure to her face as a 10 out of 10. Ms. [VICTIM #1] informed me that she did not black out but did feel a little lightheadedness. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised that she had a slight change to her voice and that her voice sounded raspy.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] explained that she did not have difficulty breathing after she was strangled. Ms. [VICTIM #1] did report that she did have throat pain and pain when coughing. Ms. [VICTIM #1] explained that she did not vomit, urinate, or defecate as a result of being strangled by Mr. Houston. Ms. [VICTIM #1] informed me that she did not change clothes after the strangulation. Ms. [VICTIM #1] also stated that Mr. Houston strangled her once prior to the current incident.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that Mr. Houston left marks on her face from using his hands to cover her nose and mouth. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that while she was being strangled, she has [REDACTED] in her arms, and he began to fall out of her arms when Mr. Houston began to shake her. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that once Mr. Houston let go of her, she used her phone to call for 911 and hid the phone under her comforter. Units arrived shortly afterwards.
I observed scratches on Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s neck that she advised were cause by Mr. Houston’s hands. Ms. [VICTIM #1] had a bruised left check underneath her right eye that she stated was cause by Mr. Houston using his hands to grab her face. Ms. [VICTIM #1] had a black eye that she described was caused by Mr. Houston punching her on Thanksgiving Day. Ms. [VICTIM #1] also showed me a bruise on her right arm that she explained also occurred on the Thanksgiving Day.
I took photographs of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s injuries. I then requested a Precinct supervisor to respond to the scene. A domestic violence detective then responded to the scene and conducted further interviews of both Ms. [VICTIM #1] and Mr. Houston. After conducting both interviews Mr. Houston was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault DVA, Battery DVA and Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree.
Mr. Houston was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center where he was book on his charges. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was given a CRN card along with instructions on how to obtain a copy of the report.
