On August 6, 2022 at approximately 0211hrs I responded to [500 BLOCK] W 33rd St in reference to a domestic incident. Corporal Barksdale was at the precinct and heard a lot of arguing near W 33rd St and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and asked for assistance in dealing with the situation. My involvement was captured by my department issued body worn camera.

Upon arriving on scene, I spoke with the victim Ms. [VICTIM #1]. Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that she and her ex-boyfriend, Mr. Robert Brown live together at [500 BLOCK] W 33rd St. Mr. Brown is allowing Ms. [VICTIM #1] to live with him for thirty days until she can find a place to live. Ms. [VICTIM #1] and Mr. Brown were hanging out inside on the couch. She had her current boyfriend on face time and Mr. Brown got mad and pushed her up against the wall in the kitchen. Mr. Brown then took her phone from her and snapped it in half with his hands.

Ms. [VICTIM #1] then attempted to leave, and Mr. Brown prevented her from leaving by standing in the doorway. She then grabbed a kitchen knife (paring knife) in order to protect herself because she was unable to call anyone and was afraid. Ms. [VICTIM #1] held it down by her side with it pointing towards him in case she needed to defend herself. She then grabbed his apple watch from the dresser in the bedroom and threw it outside in the neighbor’s yard. We showed up shortly after that.

Ms. [VICTIM #1] owns a Samsung A12 phone and stated that she paid $100.00 for the phone. Cpl. Barksdale took pictures of Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s injuries. She had injuries to her breasts that Corporal Barksdale witnessed.

While on scene, I spoke with Mr. Robert Brown. Mr. Brown stated that he came home from work and took a shower. He then went to the store and got them some beer. Mr. Brown and Ms. [VICTIM #1] were sitting on the couch talking. He stated that they began arguing and it got “heated”. He then took her phone from her and snapped it in half in his hands. He had a very small laceration on his right hand which had dried blood near it.

Mr. Brown stated that Ms. [VICTIM #1] pulled a knife out and threw pots and pans in the kitchen. Ms. [VICTIM #1] then took his apple watch from the bedroom and threw it in the yard. Mr. Brown’s apple watch was found, and it was not damaged. Mr. Brown stated that he got mad because she was talking to other guys while he was at work.

Mr. Brown was arrested and charged with Simple Battery DVA for the marks Ms. [VICTIM #1] had. He was also charged with Criminal Trespass DVA for breaking Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s phone. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was issued a CRN card.
