Suspects captured after 3-hour standoff on Cherokee highway

CHEROKEE – A Cherokee County highway is open again this morning after it was shut down following a traffic stop which resulted in shots being fired by a pair of men out of Dothan, Alabama.

30-year-old Jeffrey Danner and 27-year-old William Kirkland were believed to be wanted out of Bullock and Barbour counties in that state.

Danner was booked into the Cherokee County jail without incident on four counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Police Officer, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Police and Simple Battery Against a Police Officer. Kirkland was shot during apprehension and was taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. His booking photograph is not available yet.
