On 8/21/2022 I was dispatched by the Troop I Communications Center to a report of a vehicle stuck in the ditch at the welcome center on Jekyll Island.

Upon arriving I observed a black car (listed on this report) stuck on the curb in the middle lane at the toll booth. The right front tire was stuck in a small median between the curbing of two of the lanes. The vehicle was sitting at about a 45-degree angle across the lane.

The driver, Ms. Thompson, stated that she backed up because the car in front of her started backing up. She said that she thought she had cleared the curbing and turned her wheels. The vehicle would not move on its own and the bottom of the car was sitting on the curbing. The next list wrecker A & J Towing, who Ms. Thompson initially called, was contacted, and responded. The juvenile children were asked to wait on the side of the roadway with Ms. Thompson since the vehicle had to be lifted to move it off the curbing.

While checking the vehicle and Ms. Thompson’s license, the license returned through Tennessee as a suspended non-cdl status. It did not advise why but did show indefinitely. After the vehicle was removed from the curb, I pulled it into the welcome center parking lot and the juvenile children were allowed to wait in the vehicle.

Ms. Thompson contacted her sister and brother-in-law, and they came to the welcome center. The vehicle and children were released to her sister and brother-in-law. I placed Ms. Thompson under arrest and handcuffed her on the passenger side of my vehicle away from the children. I transported her to the Glynn County Jail, and she was released into the custody of the jail staff.
