On 3/20/2022 at approximately 19:19 hours, I, Ofc. Milam, was dispatched to 3040 Watson Blvd, Best Buy, in reference to a shoplifting in progress. Once on scene an employee pointed to a female, later identified as Laura Collier, at the front register.

I made contact with Laura at the front register. I asked her what was in her bag and she pointed to several items on the counter. She said she was going to pay for the items. She also advised that she was shopping for her daughter’s birthday. Laura was sweating profusely while inside the air conditioned store.

I made contact with the store manager, [WITNESS #1]. She advised that Laura put the items in her purse, paid for a single screen protector, and did not produce the items in the purse until [WITNESS #1] confronted her about it.

I asked Laura if I could look into her bag. At that time Laura reached into her bag and produced an Arris SURFboard cable modem in its original box with a store tag. She then allowed me to look inside of her bag where no other items of merchandise were located.

Due to me witnessing the item of merchandise being taken out of the bag in my presence I placed Laura Collier in custody for shoplifting. Upon a search of her person incident to arrest I located two Nite Ize-S-Biner Carabiner’s with store tags, in her right pocket. Ofc. Roberson stood by with Laura while I competed my investigation.

[WITNESS #1] advised that Laura placed items into a shopping cart in the store. She then went to the front counter without the shopping cart. She paid for a single screen protector at the register, then returned to the cart. She placed the items from the cart into her purse.

I reviewed video footage of the incident. The video could not be downloaded at this time but Best Buy advised that they would call back when it was ready to be picked up.

The items that were concealed are as follows:

2x Nite Ize-S-Biner Carabiners $5.99 each
1x VTech 5″ video monitor $169.95
1x Ember Smart travel mug $199.95
2x Arris SURFboard cable modem $199 each

All items were returned to Best Buy. The total amount for the items is $779.88.

[WITNESS #1] was advised of this case number and how to receive a copy of this report.

Laura was transported to the WRPD for processing. I will be seeking a warrant on the next available date.
