On 08/28/2023 at 2325 hrs. I, Ofc. K. Houck, while traveling south on S. Houston Lake Rd., observed a small Uhaul truck exit the parking lot of Enmarket located at 609 S. Houston Lake Rd. The Uhaul truck exited the parking lot traveling north on S. Houston Lake Rd. Due to notifications from Flock cameras in reference to a stolen Uhaul truck the same size frequenting the area, I turned around to attempt to identify the vehicle information. As I turned around and attempted to catch up to the Uhaul, the truck turned into the parking lot of the Sunoco Gas Station at 599 S. Houston Lake Rd. I was able to confirm from the tag on the Uhaul that it was the stolen vehicle. This information was confirmed by dispatch.

I made contact with the driver, later identified as Maurice Harris, and the passenger, later identified as Kelly Roberts. I advised Mr. Harris that there had been reports made in reference to the truck. He stated that there had not been any reports made and that he had gotten this truck from a friend named [REDACTED]. He advised he could not pronounce [REDACTED]’s last name. He also stated he had been in possession of the truck for about two weeks.

I asked for their names and Mr. Harris provided the name of Michael Smith, with no middle name, and a date of birth of [REDACTED BY AGENCY]74. The passenger provided her information as Kelly Roberts with a date of birth of [REDACTED BY AGENCY]1970. Mr. Smith’s information was not found through GA or in our local system. He advised at that time he did not have a driver’s license. Mrs. Roberts information returned with an open/valid warrant for VOP through Monroe County. She was placed into custody and transported to the Warner Robins Police Department.

Mr. Harris was placed into custody at the time for Theft by Receiving and for Driving Without a License. As we placed the handcuffs on Mr. Harris’ hands he kept his hands balled up and would not open them. He finally opened his right hand but would not open his left. As he continued to resist to open both hands we placed him onto the ground to better control his hands and arms. While doing so, a small baggie containing what appeared to be crack cocaine was pulled out of his left hand. The contents was field tested and tested indicative of cocaine with a weight of 1.1 grams. The crack cocaine was submitted to property as evidence.

While being transported to the Warner Robins Police Department, Mr. Harris provided his correct name as Maurice Harris with a date of birth as [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1974. I provided this information to dispatch and was able to confirm by Mr. Harris’ oln photo. He also returned with a suspended license.

Mrs. Roberts bag and pocket knife were placed into property for safe keeping. She signed a property retention form which was submitted with her bag. The Uhaul was removed by Bow Tie towing.

I will be signing warrants on Mr. Harris for Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Driving With a Suspended License, Possession of Crack Cocaine, and False Name and DOB.
