On September 5, 2023 at 1025 hours I, Ofc. Wojtal, was dispatched to [300 BLOCK] Woodland Trl. in reference to a domestic. Upon arriving on scene I made contact with [VICTIM #1], the victim, who had blood on her left shoulder and the left side of her neck. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised she had been pistol whipped in the head by her now ex-boyfriend, Zakarius Carson, while in an altercation at his residence. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised his residence was 104, but was unsure initially of the name of the road, stating it was just across Corder road. Ofc. Lowry was able to use a digital map and show Ms. [VICTIM #1] 104 Wrights Mill Cir, and she confirmed this to be the address. EMS was called to tend to Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s wounds and arrived shortly after.
Ofc. S. Bish, Ofc. A. Lowry, and myself then went to make contact at 104 Wrights Mill Cir. with the offender, Zakarius Carson. Mr. Carson was given commands to come outside and did so. While attempting to place Mr. Carson into custody, he began to resisting and then began to try to kick at and keep his arms away from Ofc. Bish and myself. After getting Mr. Carson to the ground, we were able to secure him into handcuffs, however he then began to resist going to a patrol car, even banging his head on the door of the vehicle while attempting to get him inside. Mr. Carson was then again put onto the ground where he began to try and bang his head on the dirt and was restrained from injuring himself. He was then placed into the vehicle and transported to police headquarters by Ofc. Lowry.
I then went to police headquarters and completed an application for a search warrant after Ofc. Lowry and Ofc. Bish requested permission to search the residence at 104 Wrights Mill Cir. and did not find a firearm in the common areas. I made contact with Houston County Magistrate by video call and a search warrant for the location was signed. Ofc. Bish and Ofc. Lowry executed the search warrant and were able to recover a firearm and firearm related objects. See their supplementary reports for further.
Mr. Carson then requested to speak to me, and he was read the miranda warning prior to speaking to me. Mr. Carson advised he understood the miranda warnings and advised he would speak to me. Mr. Carson advised he did not know how the injury to Ms. [VICTIM #1]s head occurred, and stated he was asleep prior to police coming to his residence. Mr. Carson was unable to provide any further information on this incident.
Photographs of the injury to Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s head were taken and will be placed into PISTOL under this case number. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was issued a case number and was advised how to obtain a copy of this report. I will be seeking warrants on Mr. Carson next available date for the charges he was taken into custody on.
