On 5/26/2022 while conducting speed enforcement on HWY 196E near Hooks CT, I observed a silver Toyota Corolla (GA Tag [REDACTED]). The vehicle was in the #2 lane and passing several motorists. Using my LIDAR, the vehicle registered at 73 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. I activated my emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Before exiting my vehicle, I conducted a GCIC/NCIC inquiry on the tag. The response was the registered owner’s license was suspended on for a super speeder violation.
I approached the driver, later identified as the registered owner, Mr. Shaquille Watson and explained the reason for the stop. I requested his license and he provided me with a GA driver’s license. I asked Mr. Watson to step out and he complied.
I advised him of the suspension. He stated he had no idea his license was suspended. I advised him he was now under arrest. I searched, handcuffed, checked for fit, double locked, and escorted him to my patrol vehicle. Mr. Watson was allowed to make some phone calls and he was able to contact his supervisor whom arrived shortly and picked up the vehicle.
I transported Mr. Watson to the jail where he was cited and released to the booking officers.
The rear of my patrol vehicle was searched both prior to and after transport with no contraband being found.
