On 05/29/2022 at approximately 0111 hours I, Deputy Dillon, responded to [100 BLOCK] Sapwood Way (Hinesville, GA) in reference to a disturbance. My BWC (body worn camera) was activated.

Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated she lives with her grandmother, Ms. [REDACTED], at the address above. Her mother, Ms. [REDACTED], lives with Mr. Rickey Talley. [REDACTED] and Rickey are engaged. They came to visit for Mr. [VICTIM #1]’s graduation from school. [VICTIM #1] is [WITNESS #1]’s brother and [REDACTED]’s son. [WITNESS #1] informed me ever since Rickey began dating her mom [REDACTED], he has never liked [VICTIM #1]. In reference to today, the entire family was out in the backyard grilling. Rickey and [VICTIM #1] were going back and forth verbally. [WITNESS #1] said Rickey was insulting [VICTIM #1] and eventually things turned physical. After they physically wrestled, Rickey kept threatening that he was going to beat [VICTIM #1]’s a*s. He then left the house before Police arrived. Before leaving she heard him say ” I’m going to come back and shoot the house up”.

[VICTIM #1] stated that he was in the backyard. He informed me Rickey had been insulting him throughout the day. While in the backyard, Rickey told [VICTIM #1] he was weak. [VICTIM #1] replied “I bet I can pick you up”. Rickey said try me. [VICTIM #1] approached and grabbed him preparing to pick him up off the ground. Before he could pick him up, Rickey grabbed him back and wrestled him to the ground. As he was forced to the ground they hit [REDACTED] who dropped her drink. Moments later they stopped and Rickey left the house. Before leaving the house he also heard Rickey say “I’m going to come back and shoot the house up”. [VICTIM #1] had on a ripped shirt with several scratches on his chest. He also had a bruise on his left forearm. EMS arrived on scene to check [VICTIM #1].

Deputy Tolson spoke to Rickey on the phone when we were on-scene at [100 BLOCK] Sapwood Way. Rickey said he would not return to the scene. [WITNESS #1] and [VICTIM #1] advised he left the house in a black Chevy rental car with Texas tags.

[REDACTED] was intoxicated and became argumentative, as she was defending Rickey. She mentioned that he was her only ride back home. She became disorderly towards [VICTIM #1] as she accused him of lying. [REDACTED] said that her son was lying and [VICTIM #1] put on a ripped up shirt just before Deputies arrived. She informed me she called Police to the scene.

Afterwards, Deputy Tolson and I canvassed the area looking for Rickey. I located Rickey at the LaQuinta Inn hotel (1740 E Oglethorpe Hwy). He was sitting in the driver seat of the vehicle which was parked in the parking lot. I approached and told him to exit the vehicle. He was asked what occurred at the house. He stated that everyone was in the backyard, like everyone else said. Then [VICTIM #1] came to pick him up and he pushed him off of him. He advised no further incident occurred and he left the residence. His statements did not match [VICTIM #1]’s visible injuries. Rickey was then placed into cuffs. Cuffs was checked for proper fit and double-locked. Rickey was searched incident to arrest. He was transported by Deputy Tolson and booked into Liberty County Jail. Rickey was informed he was charged with Battery (OCGA 16-5-23.1).

[REDACTED] walked to LaQuinta hotel where she caused another scene asking for us to take Rickey out of the car. She pleaded to let Rickey go while she advised he was her only ride home. She had signs of being intoxicated. She appeared to be defending Rickey as a convenience to her.

[VICTIM #1] was provided a case number and Victims Pamphlet. Deputy Tolson advised the back seat of his patrol vehicle was searched before and after transport with nothing found. A warrant for Battery (OCGA 16-5-23.1) will be applied for and a first appearance bond hearing will be conducted within the allowed time by the state.
