On this date, 06/10/2022, I, Ofc. Bell, responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] at the Walmart in reference to a shoplifting.
Once on scene, I made contact with [WITNESS #1] in the loss prevention office. [WITNESS #1] showed me video which I observed a male subject place a cross necklace inside of a shirt while at the register. The male subject was attempting to conceal the necklace and leave with out paying for it.
The male subject began to exit the Walmart at this time which [WITNESS #1] was able to stop and escort into the loss prevention office. Once inside the loss prevention office, I asked the subject for his identification which he provided that his name was Jimmy Harrell.
I then read Jimmy his Miranda rights. Jimmy advised that he forgot that he had concealed the necklace and that he was sorry. I asked Jimmy how he forgot when he did it as he was bagging his items to pay and leave the store. Jimmy stumbled on his words and stated that he didn’t mean to and to please let him go.
I was then provided with a receipt showing that the cross necklace stolen was worth $19.20. I placed Jimmy under arrest and asked him if he had anything illegal on him. He advised that he had a small container of methamphetamines in his right “watch” pocket.
I located the small, metal container that contained what appeared to be a white crystallized substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
I escorted Jimmy to my patrol car where he was again searched in front of my in car camera and then secured into the back seat of my patrol car. Jimmy was transported to the Whitfield County Jail and turned over to the Whitfield County booking staff.
Jimmy was arrested on WAS# 65669 for:
- 16-8-14; theft of shoplifting
- 16-13-36; possession of methamphetamine
I later weighed the suspect the methamphetamine and it weighed 14.2 gg within the container it was found in. It was then was entered into P&E and will be sent off to the GBI crime lab for further testing.
Nothing further at this time.
