I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Ivey Drive Lot [REDACTED] in reference to an ongoing domestic dispute. Prior to my arrival, dispatch advised me that the victim may have been strangled but denied emergency medical services. Dispatch advised me that the offender had left the scene traveling towards Rod’s Stop N Shop.
Upon arrival, I made contact with [VICTIM #1] in the driveway of [100 BLOCK] Ivey Drive. [VICTIM #1] stated her brother, Gary Sargent, had moved into her residence approximately a month ago. [VICTIM #1] stated she and Gary were in the living room of her residence when Gary received a phone call from her husband. [VICTIM #1] stated she was upset with Gary for talking to her husband and she asked him to leave the residence. [VICTIM #1] stated Gary refused to leave the residence and slapped her phone out of her hands.
[VICTIM #1] stated Gary became increasingly angry and began to damage items in the living room. [VICTIM #1] stated she then called 911. [VICTIM #1] stated Gary then jumped on her, knocking over the television in the process, and began to strangle her with his hands. [VICTIM #1] stated Gary struck her face multiple times with a closed fist. [VICTIM #1] stated she felt in fear for her life, because she was unable to breathe. [VICTIM #1] stated she attempted to get Gary off her by grabbing his shirt and pressing it onto his neck. [VICTIM #1] stated Gary eventually let go of her and left the residence.
I observed [VICTIM #1]’s neck to have scratch marks and bruises consistent with injuries sustained by strangulation. I was unable to observe any apparent injuries to [VICTIM #1]’s face.
[VICTIM #1] and I entered her residence. I observed the living room to be in disarray, with her television lying on the floor, screen down. I had [VICTIM #1] walk me through the sequence of events once more, and there were no discrepancies from her original story. [VICTIM #1] lifted her television off the floor, and I observed her phone beneath it, corroborating her story. I then took pictures of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries and provided her with my business card displaying the incident’s case number.
Sergeant Arp and I searched the surrounding area for Gary, but we were unable to locate him.
Pictures of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries were taken via AXON Capture and uploaded as evidence. Two state warrants are pending on Gary Sargent for the offenses of aggravated assault and criminal trespass.
