On 09/17/2025 at approximately 1426 hours, I contacted complainant/victim, [VICTIM #1], at Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin Hospital, 821 North Cobb Street, in reference to aggravated battery.

Upon arrival, I observed, later identified as the offender, Shaga Childs, exiting the Hospital’s emergency room door. When I began to ask Shaga what was going on, he stated he was driving the black in color 2021 Jeep Grand Cheroke, (Georgia Tag: [REDACTED], VIN: [REDACTED]) while his mother, [VICTIM #1], was in the front passenger seat. Shaga advised while he was driving the vehicle, [VICTIM #1] yelled loudly to stop due to a car in front of them coming to a stop. Shaga stated it caused him to lose control of his cell phone located in his hand and struck [VICTIM #1] in the face. Shaga stated he did not mean to strike his mother.

Moments later, Officers gathered more information regarding the call and attempted to place Shaga in custody. I grabbed a hold of Shaga’s right wrist while Lieutenant Allen grabbed his left arm. I gave Shaga verbal commands to place his hands behind his back, however, he began to resist which resulted in placing Shaga on the ground.

Due to Shaga’s level of resistance and size, Lt. Allen placed Shaga on the ground and I was able to place the right handcuff on him. Multiple commands were given to place his hands behind his back; however, he continued to resist and did not comply. Lieutenant Allen was able to pull his left arm to the rear of his back, and I was able to place the left-hand cuff on. Shaga was very uncooperative and was very disorderly throughout the whole call. Shaga was placed at the rear of my patrol vehicle to which he continued to be disorderly and attempted to break the rear glass window by kicking it multiple times. On Shaga’s hands, I observed a ring the subject was wearing on his right-hand pinky and scratch marks on both his knuckle area.

I contacted [VICTIM #1] to which she stated her son, Shaga, struck her with his hands. When [VICTIM #1] was asked why he struck her, she stated he just does it and he is not mentally stable. Due to [VICTIM #1]’s serious condition, I was unable to gather more information, however, EMS staff advised she is getting airlifted to Macon Hospital to get surgery on her left eye.

Staff at the hospital advised [VICTIM #1]’s left eye was coming out of socket and needed immediate surgery care. Staff at the hospital were able to advise based on the level of injury it possibly could be from a ring the offender, Shaga, was wearing. Photographs of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries were attached to the report.

A warrant for aggravated battery and two counts of obstruction was secured on Shaga. A victim bill of rights was unable to be provided due to the urgent medical care [VICTIM #1] needed from her injuries. Body worn camera captured the incident. Lt. Allen completed a Use of Force Report.
