I, D/S Hayden Frey, arrived at listed location and met with the complainant, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that a male subject had driven onto his property on a side by side and shot his dog. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised that they had security camera footage from their home, showing that at approximately 1027 hrs, a white male subject, carrying a hangun, was making laps around their residence. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that when he and his wife had returned to their residence, they discovered their great dane/german Shepard mix dog had been shot in the face. The dog was still currently alive on scene, however [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated they would be taking the dog to a vet.
I was also able to review said security camera footage, and I did observe a white male, with a handgun, driving a blue and black Ranger side by side. The male subject can be seen initially pulling into the driveway and stopping, then he begins driving around the property. The Ranger side by side in the camera footage appeared to be Blue and Black with 4 seats (front row/back row), with a short bed. Screen shot of security camera footage uploaded to Axon. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] also advised he would attempt to upload the full footage to a thumb drive at a later date.
[REDACTED BY AGENCY] also advised that they had spoken with their neighbor, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], and she had stated that a male subject that lived down the road had mulitple goats that had been killed by a dog, and that he was going around looking for the dog that did it. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and his wife were also able to show me a facebook post where a male subject had referenced his goats being killed, and stating that he would shoot the dog. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] also advised that when they spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY], she told them that she had heard a gun shot come from their property.
After speaking with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] I relocated to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] residence next door. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advised me that a Massey subject [REDACTED BY AGENCY] could not remember a first name) had come by her house on a side by side earlier this date and spoke with her in reference to his goats being killed by a dog. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] informed him that it was not her dogs, that she keeps them put up. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that after the Massey subject left her residence, that he went over to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] residence. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that when the Massey subject left her property, she went back inside her house. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that after going back inside, a short time later, she heard what she believed to be a gunshot come from the direction of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] property. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was able to direct me to where Mr. Massey lived, at which time we relocated to that address ([100 BLOCK] Cheek St.).
At this time, Cpl. Langston had arrived on scene with me. When we arrived on scene at [100 BLOCK] Cheek St., I observed a blue and black Ranger side by side in the driveway, matching the description from [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Security camera footage. Myself and Cpl. Langston made contact and spoke with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that her husband, Michael Massey, was not at home currently. [WITNESS #1] informed me on the incident with the goats and chickens being killed by a dog. She stated that her husband and her had attempted to ride around to locate the dog, but could not locate it. [WITNESS #1] and Michael’s information was collected for documentation purposes.
Later this date, I spoke with Michael by phone. I advised Michael I was contacting him directly in order for the incident to be documented accurately. When I asked Michael about the incident, he stated that there were two dogs on scene with the goats were killed. He stated that they chased one off, but did not state anything about the other one. He advised he did not want to speak about the matter any further without his attorney.
Recorded on bodycam.
On 8-March-2025, dispatch advised me that [WITNESS #1] had called with updated information pertaining to the dog that killed their goats. I arrived at the Massey residence and spoke with [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] advised that they had located the dog and identified it as the one that had killed their goats. They stated that it was currently tied up at [200 BLOCK] Oscar Rucker Road. I later relocated to that address and observed the dog there as well, which was a large black dog. I was unable to make contact with anyone at this residence.
Also on this date, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] came by the sheriff’s office and provided a thumb drive with the security camera footage from his residence. Thumb drive was logged into evidence.
