[NARRATIVE #1 on September 12, 2025]

September 12, at 1315 hours:
Inv. Wyatt went to Barrow County Animal Control (616 Barrow Park Drive) regarding an animal abuse case. The case briefly explained was that Barrow Animal Control received a report of a dog that had its leg broken by the previous owner. The dog was surrendered by the owner’s wife after it was taken to North Georgia Veterinary Services. The allegation was that the dog’s owner’s husband broke the dog’s leg. Animal control staff turned over documentation and video recorded evidence supporting the complaint.

The following is a list of evidence provided to law enforcement:

Animal control incident report
North Georgia Veterinary Specialist medical report for the abused dog
Barrow County Animal Control witness statement from veterinarian staff member
Pictures of abused dog’s broken leg before and after it was surgically repaired
Previous medical records for the abused dog
A video recorded interview with the suspect who broke the dog’s leg

Animal control’s incident report showed the previous address of the dog as [1600 BLOCK] Gladiola Street Hoschton, Ga 30548. The address listed in the report is within Barrow County and where the incident occurred, making the appropriate investigating agency the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. The owner listed for the dog was John Gunderson (suspect). A check of the address in the local computer system showed John Robert and [REDACTED] as adult individuals who lived at the residence.

The investigation is ongoing and will continue to be investigated by the criminal investigations division.

[NARRATIVE #2 on September 23, 2025]

On September 23rd, 2025, at approximately 1446 hours, I initiated a warrant service at [1600 BLOCK] Gladiola Street. John Gunderson had an active arrest warrant out of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated cruelty to animals.

Upon arrival, I located John at the garage door of the residence. I placed John into handcuffs behind his back, which were checked for correct fit, and double locked. I told John he was being detained. Dispatch confirmed the warrant. I told John he was under arrest. John’s person was searched incident to arrest; no contraband was located.

John was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center, where he was turned over to staff without issue and served with the warrant. The back seat of my patrol vehicle was searched before and after transporting John. No contraband was located.
