On 05/31/2025 at 2234 hours, I (Sgt. Wolfe) received a message from Sgt. Katie Crosby from the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office regarding a domestic that occurred in the city limits of Winder. Sgt. Crosby advised me that she had passed my phone number to Officer O’Brien from Lawrenceville PD.

At 2241 hours, I received a call from a female later identified as [REDACTED BY AGENCY], who advised me she had been given my phone number from O’Brien. She proceeded to say that she lives in Winder and that her roommate (later identified as Matthew Gloyd) had pulled a gun on her while she was lying in bed with her [REDACTED BY AGENCY] year-old son. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] continued on to say that her roommate made her give her key to the residence back, and she was wondering how she could go about to retrieving her stuff from the residence.

I asked her where she resided, and she stated [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in Winder. I asked her what occurred when the roommate pulled the gun on her and if they were in an argument or anything. She proceeded to tell me that her roommate came into her bedroom and she was undressed and did not have any clothes on. She proceeded to say that he climbed on top of the bed. She proceeded to say that it was making her uncomfortable. She stated that her daughter was at her father’s house, and his name was [REDACTED]. She stated that she told her roommate that she was going to call [REDACTED] and tell [REDACTED] that he needed to back off.

She stated that he began saying Oh, what is [REDACTED] going to do and that he stormed off down the hallway. She stated that he grabbed his gun and that she had locked the door, and he proceeded to charge through the door. She stated that her son was just on the bed with her. I asked her if he ever pointed the gun at her, and she stated that when he barged in the door, he made the motion of loading the gun. She then stated that after the incident, he advised her that the gun was not loaded and that he would never do anything to hurt her or her son, [REDACTED]. She stated that she told him that it was conflicting with what had just occurred. She stated that obviously she needed to leave because there is no world where she would be comfortable staying. She went on to say that she didn’t necessarily want anything to happen to him, but that she just wanted to return to the house to retrieve her stuff, but of course not right now.

I asked how long they had lived together and how long she had been living there. She stated she moved into the house last February. She stated that it was his house and that she paid him $400 a month to live there. She then identified her roommate as Matthew Gloyd and that he was 37 years old. I asked her where she was at she was at right now and she stated she was at her child’s father’s grandparents’ house in Cumming, GA. I asked again what time this had occurred, and she stated it was around 9 pm tonight. I asked if she was afraid or in fear of receiving injury before the gun incident happened, and she stated no, that the gun thing just threw her off, and that she didn’t think he would do anything, and that he was just verbal. When asked what type of gun he had and she stated it was a handgun and it was black or silver, but they stated she was pretty sure it was grey. I began explaining the Family Violence laws in Georgia to her. I asked when she was planning on coming back, and she stated within the next couple of days. She stated that he had texted her and advised her to tell him when she would be returning because all of her stuff would be outside.

I asked her if Mr. Gloyd had texted her anything about the incident, and she stated he had. She advised that she told him that obviously she was going to leave when you pull a gun out on me, and she stated he responded by saying ok, no gun was pulled on you, that’s absurd. She stated she told him he did and that she has it on video. I then asked her if she could possibly send me the video, and she stated yes. I then provided her my email address. I then explained again the laws regarding family violence and advised her to give me a little bit to review the video and that I would call her back.

At 2258 hours, I received an email with a video attachment from [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Upon reviewing the video, it showed that she was lying in bed, in a bedroom, when she got up and went to close and lock the bedroom door. It appears that she returned to the bed. A few moments later, a white male, identified as Matthew Gloyd, barged through the bedroom door holding a black/silver handgun in his left hand. Using his right hand, it appeared that he “cocked” or loaded the gun. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] can be heard gasping before saying “What the fu*k are you doing.” Mr. Gloyd then stated “You think [REDACTED] is going to shut me the fu*k up? Huh? You think [REDACTED] is going to shut me the fu*k up? I’m asking you?” [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then stated, “You need to put that away.” Mr. Gloyd then stated, “Say, I’m just asking?” [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then stated, “No, you need to put that away, I’m going to leave.” Mr. Gloyd then stated, “I didn’t think so, I didn’t think so,” as he began to turn around and start walking out with the firearm now in his right hand. Mr. Gloyd then turned around and began walking back toward the doorway saying “[REDACTED], What the fu*k is [REDACTED] going to do?” The video then ended. The total duration of the video is 38 seconds.

Due to the high number of calls for service in the city, there was a break during the investigation. I notified Lt. Page of the events that had occurred, and I contacted the On-Call Det. Manthe regarding the incident, and he advised that he would be enroute. I spoke with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] again, and she advised that it wasn’t until Mr. Gloyd barged in with the gun that she was in fear for her safety, along with her son’s safety, and the fear of what could have happened. After speaking with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and watching the video, I had enough probable cause to obtain warrants against Matthew Gloyd. I obtained the following warrants against Mr. Gloyd.

2025- 1601FW Aggravated Assault (Family Violence)
2025-1602MW Simple Assault(Family Violence)

Det Manthe obtained a search warrant for the residence located at [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to locate the firearm used during this incident.

At 0145 hours, we responded to the residence and attempted to make contact with Matthew Gloyd. There were TV lights on, and we observed movement of the upstairs blinds but were unable to make contact.

At 0245 hours, after discussions and doing research on the property, and obtaining additional tools, we responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to execute the search warrant by forcing entry to the residence. I pulled my patrol car into the driveway of the residence and activated my emergency lights. I then began giving commands over my vehicle’s loudspeaker for Mr. Gloyd to exit the residence. After several minutes and commands, Mr. Gloyd appeared at the front door and opened it.

I began giving commands for him to show us his hands and to step out of the residence, which he complied. I then placed him into handcuffs without incident. The handcuffs were double-locked and checked for proper spacing. Ofc. Dutcher and Ofc. Gibbs then placed him into the back seat of my patrol car and seat belted him in.

Ofc. Melniciuc, Ofc. Pierce, Det. Manthe and I then cleared the residence. Nobody else was located inside. On the nightstand, in the back bedroom upstairs, Det. Manthe located a black/silver handgun. It matched the handgun that was observed in the video of the incident. Det. Manthe took possession of the handgun.

We secured the residence by locking the bottom lock of the front door. I transported Mr. Gloyd to the Barrow County Jail without incident.

The back seat of my patrol car was checked before and after Mr. Gloyd was placed inside.

At 0524 hours, I received a call back from [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I advised her of the situation and that Mr. Gloyd had been taken into custody. As she was not present, I was unable to provide her with the peace place pamphlet. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] advises that she will be returning to the residence sometime today to retrieve her belongings and will be leaving the residence.
