On 05-02-2024 at approximately 20:14 hours I was dispatched to [SINGLE DIGIT BLOCK] Woodland RD Auburn, GA 30011 in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, I was met in the front yard by Mr. [VICTIM #1], Ms. [WITNESS #1] and Mrs. [VICTIM #2]. [VICTIM #1] was bleeding from a cut on his right thumb and right shoulder blade. The cuts appeared to be superficial. [VICTIM #2] informed me she had a cut on her right knee. EMS was requested to assess and treat the injured parties.
I asked [VICTIM #1] what happened. [VICTIM #1] told me he confronted his roommate, Mr. Robert Cozier about leaving a dirty pan in the sink after cooking. [VICTIM #1] said the argument quickly became heated. [VICTIM #1] said Robert produced a fixed blade knife from his belt line. [VICTIM #1] grabbed Robert’s hand to control the blade. [VICTIM #1] believed he sustained the laceration to his thumb at this point in the altercation. [VICTIM #1] said he headbutted Robert and the two men went to the ground in front of [VICTIM #2]. [VICTIM #1] told me Robert attempted to stab him in the abdomen, but missed stabbing [VICTIM #2] in the leg. [VICTIM #1] said he headbutted Robert again. [VICTIM #1] said the two men separated and he, [VICTIM #2] and [WITNESS #1] went outside to call the police.
[VICTIM #2] told me Robert and [VICTIM #1] got into an argument. [VICTIM #2] said Robert produced a knife and [VICTIM #1] grabbed hold of Robert’s hand. [VICTIM #2] claimed [VICTIM #1] headbutted Robert and attempted to disarm him. [VICTIM #2] told me she was stabbed in her right knee in the process of [VICTIM #1] disarming Robert. [VICTIM #2] said [VICTIM #1] was able to get the knife away from Robert and she and [VICTIM #1] went into the front yard to contact the police. I asked where Robert was. I was informed Robert was still in the house.
I went to the front door of the residence and announced my presence. I instructed Robert to come to the front door. I made several verbal announcements into the house instructing Robert to come to the front door. I received no answer. Approximately ten to fifteen minutes passed with no response from Robert. Robert finally emerged from the kitchen. Robert was detained by deputies in the front yard. A sweep of the residence to confirm there were no other victims was performed. No other parties were located.
Robert was bleeding from two small lacerations to his left upper cheek. Paramedics attended to [VICTIM #2], Robert and [VICTIM #1]. Robert was read his Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions without counsel. Robert claimed [VICTIM #1] came after him and he drew the knife in self defense. Robert said he was restraining himself from stabbing [VICTIM #1]. Robert claimed [VICTIM #1] headbutted him several times causing the laceration to his upper left cheek below his eye. Robert had a moderately strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Robert’s speech was slurred, and his eyes were watery. [VICTIM #1] agreed to complete a written statement detailing his recollection of events.
The knife was collected from the front yard. Photographs were taken of the injured parties. Written statements were collected from [VICTIM #1] and [VICTIM #2]. I collected a written statement from Ms. [WITNESS #1] ([VICTIM #1]’s daughter). Mrs. [WITNESS #1] was in the living room when the altercation occurred and did not witness the incident. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said she heard yelling and [VICTIM #1] came out to tell her to go outside with him and [VICTIM #2]. [VICTIM #2] was treated at the scene, but was not transported to the hospital by ambulance. [VICTIM #1] was treated for him lacerations at the scene, but was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Braselton for another medical condition.
Robert was triaged by EMS. EMS did not believe Robert needed stitches for the lacerations to his left upper cheek. Robert was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center. Robert was referred to the emergency room for treatment by medical staff at the detention center. Medical personnel at Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Barrow discovered Robert needed stitches for the two lacerations. Robert also sustained a broken nose during the altercation.
After treatment, I transported Robert to the Barrow County Detention Center. I am securing arrest warrants against Robert for the offenses of aggravated assault (FV) (16-5-21(i)) and reckless conduct (16-5-60(b)). The photographs of the parties involved have been attached to this report. The knife used in the incident was collected and secured in an evidence locker at the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
