On 08/30/2025 at approximately 1042 hours, I responded “Code 3” to [300 BLOCK] Finch Landing Road in Winder, Georgia in reference to a domestic dispute. According to the text in the call: Caller advised fiancé pulled a gun on her and hit her in the face. Caller advised male has a history of domestic charges in the past. The caller updated dispatch while responding units were enroute that the male, Rodrick Gresham, is leaving in a white Acura passenger car.
Upon arriving on scene, I met with the victim later identified as [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] was standing on the patio area of the residence near the front door with her 3-year-old daughter. I approached [VICTIM #1] and asked what occurred during this incident. [VICTIM #1] immediately responded with a question asking why her fiancé, Rodrick, was still at large and not in custody.
I informed her other responding deputies were in the area searching for the vehicle she previously described to dispatch when he left the scene. [VICTIM #1] showed me her phone and displayed an app that had a tracking position of Rodrick that displayed in the near area of Hwy 82 and Pickle Simon Road towards Winder, Georgia.
I was able to provide other deputies updates of the location and was able to confirm he was driving a white Acura TL 3.2 passenger car. Utilizing Flock Camera systems in the nearby area, a Georgia license plate of [REDACTED] was observed on a white Acura passenger car matching the description of the one provided by [VICTIM #1]. Upon running the license plate through GCIC/NCIC, it was confirmed to be registered to Rodrick Gresham.
I went into questioning [VICTIM #1] about the incident to determine what occurred. [VICTIM #1] stated this date was her birthday. [VICTIM #1] stated her and Rodrick got into an argument in reference to who was invited to attend her birthday party that they were going to be celebrating the following day. [VICTIM #1] stated Rodrick became angry when he learned only [VICTIM #1]’s friends and family were invited to the party and he felt left out. In [VICTIM #1]’s words, he spazzed out and became irrationally angry.
[VICTIM #1] stated on scene that the altercation took place in the kitchen and living room area of the residence, all occurring in the presence of their three-year-old daughter together. [VICTIM #1] stated Rodrick escalated the argument and hit her at least three times with an open hand on the left side of her face near her eye and upper cheek area.
Note: I observed [VICTIM #1]’s face inside the residence and initially it was not clear of where she was struck. I later had her exit the residence and step out into the sunlight and observed bruising that was beginning to occur in the area she stated she was struck.
While taking pictures, I also observed minor swelling on her left cheek that was noticeably different from the other side of her face. [VICTIM #1] was offered medical attention on scene and refused, stating she would transport herself to the hospital if she needed to at a later and more convenient time.
[VICTIM #1] stated after Rodrick struck her, she had fallen onto the living room couch. She later pointed out a gold bracelet that I observed on the floor of the living room near the couch she had fallen onto. [VICTIM #1] stated when he struck her and she fell, this bracelet came off amidst her falling. Due to all of this occurring at a rapid rate and escalating quickly, [VICTIM #1] stated some parts of the altercation were spotty or had a difficult time remembering clear details due to shock.
She did state however, that Rodrick entered the kitchen area and began reaching into a cabinet. [VICTIM #1] stated this was when Rodrick grabbed his firearm and pointed it in the direction of [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] described the firearm as a silver firearm. She later located the firearm which was in a bowl in a cabinet in the kitchen and I observed the firearm on scene. (Black Glock 19 Serial Number [REDACTED]) No record was found on the firearm upon running it through the GCIC/NCIC database. When I asked [VICTIM #1] if Rodrick stated anything to her during this taking place, she stated Rodrick stated he was “done with this sh*t” and “not fu*king doing this anymore.”
[VICTIM #1] stated she continued to remain in a state of shock due to all of this occurring in front of their three-year-old child, who remained in the immediate presence of [VICTIM #1] and Rodrick the entire time this took place. She grabbed their child and exited the residence and immediately contacted law enforcement.
[VICTIM #1] stated her and Rodrick have been together a very long time, but at times it has been on and off due to issues in the relationship. At one point, she stated while she was in her early twenties, an incident occurred in Braselton, Georgia between her and Rodrick and he was arrested and later convicted of family violence battery during this incident.
Note: When brought to my attention, I was unable to confirm Rodrick was in fact convicted of this incident of family violence. She stated they got back together after this incident and have been together since. She stated this residence was bought in approximately March of this year and they have resided there together with their daughter.
While speaking to [VICTIM #1], other deputies with the assistance of Winder Police Department located Rodrick in his white Acura TL 3.2 in the city limits of Winder. Based on initial information as well as the possibility of him still being armed, a felony traffic stop was conducted in the area of North Broad Street and Laura street.
Note: at the time of the stop, [VICTIM #1] had not discovered the firearm at the incident location and it was unknown if he did or did not still possess the firearm at that time. Rodrick complied without incident and was detained and placed in handcuffs for further questioning.
I eventually informed [VICTIM #1] after obtaining her statement and documenting physical evidence, I was going to meet the other deputies and officers to obtain Rodrick’s version of events if he wished to talk. [VICTIM #1] was provided with a case card after I explained the process on how to obtain a copy of the report as well as family violence pamphlet.
I traveled to the traffic stop location and approached Rodrick, who at that time, was in handcuffs in the rear of a marked patrol vehicle. I identified myself as a deputy of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and immediately went into reading Rodrick his Miranda Rights.
Rodrick verbally stated he understood his rights, and he would answer questions. When I asked what occurred during this incident, he initially seemed reluctant to talk. He eventually stated he did get into an argument with his fiancé, [VICTIM #1], at their residence at [300 BLOCK] Finch Landing Road. Rodrick corroborated [VICTIM #1]’s statement of the reasoning for the argument, however, he stated [VICTIM #1] escalated the altercation. He informed me that [VICTIM #1] is always inviting her people, and she does not care to involve his friend’s or family. Due to this, he stated he did not wish to participate in celebrating her birthday.
When asked where this took place, he stated in the living room or kitchen area of the residence. Rodrick stated the altercation did not get physical at any point. When I asked how the marks were obtained on [VICTIM #1]’s face, he stated he was not responsible for them. He stated this was most likely a plan of [VICTIM #1]’s to get him in trouble and because she is manipulative. I asked Rodrick if the firearm at the residence was his and he responded yes. When I went into further questioning about the incident and the firearm, he denied ever grabbing the firearm and using it during this incident.
After obtaining his statement, as well as [VICTIM #1]’s statement, and supported by physical evidence, I informed Rodrick he was under arrest and being charged with Family Violence Battery as well as Cruelty to Children 3rd degree. I transferred Rodrick and his personal belongings into my patrol vehicle and I transported him to the Barrow County Jail. I released Rodrick and his personal belongings to the deputies/staff on duty without incident.
I later contacted the magistrate judge on duty and obtained the following warrants.
2025-2782MW- OCGA 16-5-23.1 Family Violence Battery. Based on probable cause of Rodrick striking [VICTIM #1] on the left side of the face with an open palm resulting in visible bruising and swelling observed on scene.
2025-2783MW- OCGA 16-5-70 Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree. Based on probable cause of an act of family violence battery occurring in the immediate presence of their 3-year-old daughter by Rodrick, both parties involved confirming their daughter was present during this incident.
While on scene, I previously asked [VICTIM #1] if there was any video or recording of the incident involving Rodrick grabbing the firearm and pointing it at her in the kitchen. [VICTIM #1] stated there was no video supporting her allegation, and there was not another individual third-party witness. Due to lack of probable cause, I did not obtain a warrant for pointing a firearm at another person. Due to this, the firearm is not evidence at this point.
At the time of this incident a criminal history was available to observe any previous convictions of Rodrick from past incidents. Rodrick did state he was charged and convicted a while ago of what he believed to be family violence battery in Braselton, Georgia. After speaking with supervision, due to Rodrick stating the firearm was his, if information is obtained and probable cause is established for Rodrick possessing a firearm after a conviction of family violence, he could potentially receive applicable charges if the District Attorney’s office desires to prosecute in reference to this matter.
It was brought to my attention that [VICTIM #1] was requesting information about this case and had further questions. Please reference call 2025-00055027 and 2025-00055120. [VICTIM #1] was disappointed after learning Rodrick was charged with Family Violence Battery and Cruelty to Children 3rd degree, and there was not a charge obtained for Rodrick involving the act of him pointing the firearm at her.
I explained to [VICTIM #1] the reasoning for not obtaining a warrant for this act and insufficient probable cause supporting this. [VICTIM #1] stated she understood, however, she was still disappointed. She was educated on the process of obtaining a temporary protection order and she advised she would be following up at the next available date of the courthouse being open, 09/02/2025.
Due to concerns of her and her daughter’s safety, she had questions about Rodrick potentially making bond. She was advised there was a possibility of Rodrick being provided with a bond hearing Sunday 08/31/2025. With this information, she advised she was going to look into an alternative residence to stay until she could be granted a protection order if the judge approves.
The Barrow County Jail were informed of [VICTIM #1]’s situation and advised they will attempt to notify her if Rodrick makes bond, and what conditions of bond the judge sets forth.
