BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested a Bartow County woman on Saturday, September 21, 2024, and charged her with kidnapping after witnesses reported that she walked off with a child from a nearby home.

Deputies responded to the Saddle Club Drive mobile home park, where a man said his son had been playing with a friend at a neighbor’s house when the suspect took the boy’s hand and began walking off with him.

The neighbor explained that Cathleen Marie Slye had appeared on their porch earlier in the day and tried snatching a few items, including a lighter and cigarettes.

Witnesses noticed Slye with the child after she had walked about 10 feet away with him, and they screamed at her to stop. She let go of the boy’s hand and continued to meander around the neighborhood until police arrived.

According to the incident report, despite asking her repeatedly, deputies failed to get an explanation of her actions.

Slye remains detained at the Bartow County Jail. This case is pending in court.
