On Friday, November 21, 2025, at approximately 0528 hours, I responded to the Citgo located at 1144 North Tennessee Street, Cartersville, GA in reference to a stabbing.

Upon arrival, I met with Sgt. Cooney and the victim inside the business. The victim was laying on the ground holding his right side rear, near the kidney area. Medical personnel arrived and began treatment. During treatment, Victim stated that “Calvin did it”. I observed a puncture wound consistent with a thin bladed knife once Victim’s shirt was moved from the wound. This wound was documented with a photograph. Victim was transported to Cartersville Piedmont for treatment.

Video surveillance from outside of the business showed Victim walking around the parking lot and walk behind the dumpster where he stays. A few minutes later, at 0526 per the timestamp, Victim walked back out and picked up a stick as a black male, later identified as Mr. Calvin Tatum rounds the dumpster and approaches Victim. Mr. Tatum lunges at Victim who then jumps and flees towards the business holding his side. Mr. Tatum is then seen walking towards the car wash next door.

While checking the area around the car wash, Mr. Tatum was located sitting on the curb. Mr. Tatum was identified but stated he was not involved in any altercation.

Based on the video and statement from Victim. Mr. Tatum was detained. Mr. Tatum was advised of his Miranda rights but declined to make any statement or answer further questions.

Mr. Tatum was handcuffed to the rear, these were checked for fit and double locked. Mr. Tatum was then searched with no contraband found. The knife used in the assault was also not located on his person or the surrounding area.

Mr. Tatum was transported to the Bartow County Jail without incident by Ofc. Menzel.

Mr. Tatum’s property was turned over to family members at his request.

Investigator Gray was notified and arrived on scene and advised he would follow up to obtain the video from the business due to technical issues at the time of the report.

A warrant for one count of Aggravated Assault was obtain against Mr. Tatum and added to the case file.

Other Officers on scene included Sgt. Cooney, Ofc. Menzel, Lt. Teems BCSO and Deputy Gifford.
