Bartow County (March 4, 2023) – A woman suffered a spleen laceration at the hands of her live-in boyfriend after he became irate because she wanted to sleep. When she finally convinced him to take her to the hospital, she learned she needed a blood transfusion. Doctors informed her that her injury could have been fatal if she had not sought treatment.

Officers from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office met with the victim in the ICU, and she explained that her boyfriend of a few years, Benjamin Ray Hyde, had stomped on her abdomen with his foot and struck her in the head several times with his fist.

She added that he had terrorized her over the past year, beating her, cutting her with a knife, and pouring chemicals on her skin. She showed them a scar on her right arm where he had cut her in January.

Officers secured a warrant for Hyde and arrested him for aggravated assault on March 5. This case is currently pending in court.
