On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at approximately 0040 hours, I was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] West Ave in reference to a domestic in progress. Upon arriving, contact was made with the victim who had gone to the neighbor’s house, and the suspect, Mr. Dustin Thomason, was not on scene.
Victim stated she and Mr. Dustin Thomason had been living with each other since June of 2025. Victim stated Mr. Thomason had made suicidal statements before he had left the house. Victim stated Mr. Thomason said, “If I cannot be with you, what is the point of living” and stated he was holding his pistol in his hand. Victim stated Mr. Thomason usually keeps the weapon in the nightstand, in the holster. Victim stated that Mr. Thomason did not use the weapon in a threatening manner, and he was just holding it prior to leaving.
I asked Victim if she happened to know Mr. Thomason’s license plate number, which she was able to provide (GA- xxxxx). I asked Bartow County Dispatch to put the license plate in the call notes so other officers might be able to locate Mr. Thomason due to making suicidal threats. Victim was concerned about Mr. Thomason’s well-being and wanted to make sure he was ok. I advised Victim that we have officers in the area looking for him.
I asked Victim what happened tonight that led up to this point, and Victim stated the arguing first started around 2300 hours on 10/20/25. Victim stated she wanted to leave and break up with Mr. Thomason since she could not handle being with him anymore. Victim stated Mr. Thomason wanted to talk things through, but she did not.
Victim stated that after some time, she attempted to leave the residence, but Mr. Thomason became very upset and got on top of her and held her down against the bed, making it so that she was unable to move or get away from Mr. Thomason, leaving bruises on her inner biceps. Victim stated the incidents occurred all over the house and that they weren’t in one specific area. Victim stated she was in the bathroom, and out of nowhere, Mr. Thomason had picked her up and placed her in the bathtub while some water was present inside the tub so she would not leave.
Victim also stated they had ended up on the floor, and stated she was unsure of how they got there, and everything became blurry, but she does recall when Mr. Thomason pressed his forearm against her throat, making it so she was not able to breathe. Victim stated she did fight back in self-defense since Mr. Thomason is bigger than her, and she could not do much while she was being strangled. After some time, Victim stated she attempted to leave the residence multiple times, but Mr. Thomason had blocked the front door to the house, making it so she could not leave.
Victim stated she wanted to contact her father, but could not do so due to Mr. Thomason taking her phone, and she does not know where it is. Victim was able to contact 911 through the neighbor’s cell phone.
Bartow County dispatch gave a BOLO to the Emerson Police Department and the Cobb County Police Department for a black in color, 2000 Pontiac Firebird (GA-xxxxxx) due to the charges on Mr. Thomason for Aggravated Assault Strangulation (FVA), False Imprisonment (FVA), and Battery (FVA).
Officer Reynolds (Badge #2831) with the Cobb County Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Highway 41 Northbound near its intersection at Cedarcrest Rd, but the final stop was at 4764 N US-41, Acworth, GA 30101. Officer Reynolds detained Mr. Thomason and placed him in the rear seat of his department-issued, marked patrol car until I arrived on scene.
When I arrived on scene with the Cobb County Police Department, I made contact with Officer Reynolds. Officer Reynolds stated Mr. Thomason was in the back seat of his patrol car at this time and that Mr. Thomason’s gun was still in his car. I approached Mr. Thomason’s vehicle and observed the handgun between his center console and the passenger seat. I cleared Mr. Thomason’s Glock 17 handgun and observed a round in the chamber with a full magazine.
An NCIC/GCIC search was conducted on the weapon, and the search yielded that there is no record was found. I placed Mr. Thomason’s handgun in a clear plastic bag for safekeeping during the transport so it can be submitted as personal property.
After Mr. Thomason’s handgun was secured in the rear of my patrol car’s trunk, I made contact with Mr. Thomason, and I identified myself as a police officer with the Cartersville Police Department. I asked Mr. Thomason to step outside the vehicle so I could swap the handcuffs out. Mr. Thomason was handcuffed behind his back, double locked, and checked for proper fit. Mr. Thomason was searched, in which no contraband was located.
Mr. Thomason asked what he was being charged with since he stated he did not do anything wrong. I advised Mr. Thomason that I would tell him what he is being charged with after we get to my marked patrol car, due to the charges being pressed against him.
I escorted Mr. Thomason to the rear seat of my department-issued, marked patrol car, where he was placed inside. Once I told Mr. Thomason what he was being charged with, Mr. Thomason immediately stated, without being questioned, that Victim had choked him out while he was on the bed. He further added that this occurred after she mentioned his ex-girlfriend, and that is how he obtained scratches on his neck. Mr. Thomason stated that Victim had also hit him with a soda can on his forehead. Mr. Thomason stated that this is not the first time this incident has occurred.
Victim stated she acted in self-defense when Mr. Thomason was holding her down, and the markings on Mr. Thomason’s neck were observed to be self-defense scratches rather than Victim choking him. Mr. Thomason is 6 feet tall and much taller than Victim.
Due to victim’s testimonial and physical evidence of the incident that occurred, Mr. Thomason was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault- Strangulation FVA (WN- CE-0177104), False Imprisonment FVA (WN- CE-0177105), and Battery FVA (WN- CE-0177106). Mr. Thomason was transported to the Bartow County Jail, where he is currently housed without incident.
Victim was advised of her Crime Victim’s Rights information. Victim was also provided with a case card in reference to this incident.
Mr. Thomason’s Glock 17, ammunition, and holster were placed into evidence locker #014 for safekeeping.
Photographs were taken of victim’s bruises on both her biceps as well as her neck. Photographs were also taken of Mr. Thomason’s neck and forehead due to the injuries sustained in this incident. Both individuals refused medical treatment.
My patrol car was searched prior to shift and after each transport, with no contraband found.
