On April 23, 2022, I was dispatched to [70 BLOCK] Westside Chase, Cartersville GA, in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, I spoke with the caller Justin Gravley who said he was asleep and his wife [VICTIM #1] hit him in the head with a door. He couldn’t tell me why she did it but he pointed to a broken piece of an interior door and said that was what she used. He said he didn’t know how she got the piece of the door.

I then went into the house and spoke with [VICTIM #1] who said she was asleep in the bed when Justin came in and tried to get into the bed with her. She said she told him no because they had been in an argument and he said he was going to sleep on the couch. Both of them had been drinking but Justin was clearly the more intoxicated of the two.

[VICTIM #1] said when she told him no he became irate and started punching the door, breaking it into pieces. she said he then grabbed her by the throat and started squeezing. she did have some slight redness on the side of her neck where she said he grabbed her, but she did not lose the ability to breath. I offered to get EMS for her but she refused. I asked her to show me how he grabbed her and the way she showed me was with fingers and thumb on either side of the esophagus.

When all of this was going on the loud noise of the door being broken woke up [REDACTED BY AGENCY] their juvenile son. I asked [REDACTED BY AGENCY] what had happened and what he had seen. He said he saw his dad break the door and then go and “choke” his mom. Both [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [VICTIM #1] said that the only reason Justin stopped squeezing [VICTIM #1]’s throat was because he noticed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] coming into the room.

[VICTIM #1] said she was terrified during the entire event because Justin had done this before and she thought he was going to kill her. Justin has been charged and convicted with battery FVA in the past in 2016 for doing the same thing to [VICTIM #1].

I looked at Justin’s hands and they did have injuries that would suggest he had been punching something hard. I photoed the injuries on Justin’s hands and the one on his head. I also photoed the door and [VICTIM #1]’s neck. I told [VICTIM #1] that if she developed any more marks, started having trouble breathing or swallowing to call 911 immediately and have us return.

I gave [VICTIM #1] a victims pamphlet and case number. Justin was placed under arrest for aggravated assault strangulation, criminal trespass damage to property, and cruelty to children in the 3rd. He was transported to the Bartow County Jail without incident and turned over to the jail staff.

Nothing further.
