On 04/11/2026 at approximately 14:08 hours I, Sgt. Burchett while employed by the Adairsville Police Department, was dispatched to 21 Eagle Pkwy, Sonic Drive-In restaurant in reference to an intoxicated driver that was striking another vehicle in the drive thru line.
Upon arrival with Lt. Skidmore and Officer Mercado, I located a white Chevrolet Malibu in the drive thru line behind the caller who was parked in front of the Malibu in a red GMC Canyon. Lt. Skidmore had approached the passenger of the Malibu who was identified immediately to be Miss Lisa May Reed. Lt. Skidmore instructed Miss Reed to exit the vehicle due to her disorderly behavior.
Miss Reed began refusing to exit the vehicle and resisted. Lt. Skidmore and Officer Mercado assisted Miss Reed out of the vehicle and placed her into hand restraints. Miss Reed continued to resist and refused to identify herself.
Once Miss Reed was detained I approached the driver who I identified to be Miss Lisa Diane Turner. I asked Miss Turner to exit the vehicle. I immediately observed that Miss Turner was heavily impaired by prescription drugs. Miss Turner had slowed, slurred speech, droopy eyes, appeared very sleepy, moved slowly, and had great difficulty walking, standing, and exiting the vehicle.
I assisted Miss Turner out of the vehicle and Officer Mercado placed her into hand restraints and escorted her to a nearby table where she was seated. I began speaking to the caller, Miss [VICTIM #1] who was the driver of the GMC Canyon.
Miss [VICTIM #1] stated that she was in the drive thru line at Sonic when she was rear ended by the Chevy Malibu. She stated that the Malibu then reversed and struck her rear bumper again pushing her truck forward. She stated the Malibu reversed and almost struck the truck behind it before stopping. Miss [VICTIM #1] stated the driver of the Malibu appeared very intoxicated and the passenger was yelling and cursing from the vehicle.
Lt. Skidmore spoke to a Sonic employee. I heard the employee state that Miss Turner often comes to the restaurant and claims to have recently received a food order that was not correct, trying to receive free food with no proof of prior purchase. When the employee refused to give Miss Turner and Miss Reed the food they became upset and Miss Reed began yelling and cursing and acting disorderly. As Miss Turner was attempting to leave the drive thru she struck the GMC Canyon two times.
I called for a next list tow service to remove the Malibu from the drive thru. I gathered all of Miss [VICTIM #1]’s information and I then located Miss Turner who was sitting at a nearby table. I identified myself to Miss Turner and then asked her what had occurred. Miss Turner appeared confused and very impaired. I asked Miss Turner if she had taken any prescription drugs and she stated that she had taken Percocet and Xanax 1 hour before driving to Sonic.
I asked Miss Turner if she recalled striking the GMC Canyon. Miss Turner answered no and asked if there was video. I advised Miss Turner that I had a strong suspicion that she was under the influence of drugs and I asked Miss Turner if she would perform standardized field sobriety testing. Miss Turner answered no.
I read the Miranda Warning and Georgia Implied Consent Notice to Miss Turner. I requested a state administered blood test and Miss Turner answered yes. I asked if she understood the question and she answered no. I explained that I was requesting to transport her to the hospital for a blood draw. Miss Turner then answered “no, I don’t want to do that.”
I explained to Miss Turner that she was under arrest for DUI drugs. I asked Miss Turner to stand up and walk to my patrol vehicle. Miss Turner stated that she was going to fall down and then sat down at another nearby table.
I requested for Officer Mercado to assist me with helping Miss Turner to a patrol vehicle. As we attempted to lift Miss Turner to help her walk Miss Turner slowly lowered herself to the ground and refused to get back up.
I requested EMS to assist to rule out the possibility of any medical emergency. While waiting for EMS, Miss Turner finally complied and we escorted her to Officer Mercado’s patrol vehicle where Miss Reed had already been secured.
I assisted Miss Turner into the back seat of the patrol vehicle. A short time later, Metro EMS arrived and checked Miss Turner’s condition. The EMT stated Miss Turner looked pale and may have low blood sugar but was otherwise okay to be transported.
I issued Miss Turner a DUI citation and an ALS form for the DUI refusal. Lt. Skidmore conducted a tow inventory and advised me later that a half of a white round pill marked with a “t” on one side and a line on the opposite side had been located inside a wallet on Miss Reed’s side of the vehicle. Lt. Skidmore stated the wallet contained both occupants identifications and the pill was not in an original container.
Discount Towing arrived and removed the vehicle from the drive thru line. I read the ALS form to Miss Turner and explained the charge. I also advised Miss Reed that she was being charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction on an Officer.
Officer Mercado transported both occupants to the Bartow County Detention Center where they both were released to the jail staff. While a search of Miss Turner’s person was being conducted by the jail staff two prescription pill containers were located on her person. The containers were nearly full and were prescribed to Miss Turner. The pills were found to be the generic brands of Percocet and Xanax. The pills were photographed by Officer Mercado and I will upload the pictures to OneDrive for this case file.
I later returned to the Police Department where I secured arrest warrants for Miss Turner for:
DUI Drugs, Possession of a Schedule II Drug, and Drugs To Be Kept In Original Container.
Miss Reed arrest warrants include: Possession of a Schedule II Drug, Drugs To Be Kept In Original Container, Disorderly Conduct, Wilful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.
I placed the half pill that was discovered in the vehicle that was identified to be Oxycodone into Evidence Locker 007 to be submitted to the GBI Crime Lab for testing. A GBI submission form was completed and added to this case file without any further incident.
