Bartow County (January 9, 2023) – When officers responded to a residence regarding a domestic disturbance, they discovered a boyfriend with a bloodied face and his truck doused in lighter fluid with items inside the smoking gas tank. His girlfriend admitted she tried lighting his vehicle on fire but denied punching him.

Rebecca Alan Murphy stated that she only shoved him when she learned he was cheating on her and that he, in turn, grabbed her by the neck and held her on the ground while choking her. The officers found no red marks on her neck.

The victim explained that his live-in girlfriend entered their bedroom and “beat the sh*t out of him” to wake him up and accuse him of cheating on her. He said she punched him in the face multiple times, causing a bloody nose and lip and several red marks.

After he denied her claims, she went outside and poured sugar or salt into the gas tank of his Ford Explorer Sport Trac. She then poured lighter fluid all over the truck, put an unknown object into the gas tank, and lit it on fire. He felt that his truck was ruined and estimated damages at $2,000.

Bartow Fire arrived and extinguished the embers from the smoldering truck. Officers arrested Murphy for arson in the first degree and battery-family violence misdemeanor and transported her to the Bartow County Jail without incident. This case is currently pending in court.
