On 06/20/2026 at 0129 hours, I was dispatched to the Red Roof Inn, 28 GA-20 Spur SE, Cartersville, GA 30121, in reference to a fight in progress. Prior to my arrival, Dispatch informed me that one party was armed with a knife.

Upon arrival, I met with Skyler Hill, and he stated that Jacob Schmidt had punched him and pointed me in the direction of Jacob. I got Jacob’s statement, and he said initially that he did not punch Skyler and that Skyler was lying. Jacob also stated that he never had a knife and that Skyler and his family were the people with knives. A deputy walked over to me, stating that there was video evidence of Jacob punching Skyler in the face, so I detained Jacob right after learning this new information. Jacob then began to say that he punched Skyler in order to protect his girlfriend, [REDACTED].

I interviewed [WITNESS #1], and she stated she was in the same room as [REDACTED] when the punch occurred. [WITNESS #1] stated that [REDACTED] was not anywhere near Jacob during the incident, which, if true, would mean Jacob lied to me about protecting [REDACTED]. I went to where I initially arrived and met with [WITNESS #2], who took a video of the altercation that occurred. In the video [WITNESS #2] took, I witnessed Jacob approach and punch Skyler unprovoked, with the video ending directly after the punch was thrown. I sent a citizen’s upload link to [WITNESS #2] to add to the case as evidence. As I was gathering more contact information, it came to my attention that there was additional camera footage that came from the Red Roof’s building camera.

In this additional camera footage, I witnessed Jacob punch Skyler in the face unprovoked, but after the punch was thrown, it is clearly visible that Skyler reaches in or around the area of the right side of his waist/ pocket where it is common to keep weapons, and produce an object in his right hand that reflected light off of the hotel’s lights and charge at Jacob while Jacob was attempting to retreat. Before viewing this footage, Skyler was frisked for weapons, and he did indeed have a knife on his person. This set of circumstances would lead a reasonable and prudent person to believe that Skyler had that knife in his right hand while charging at Jacob, while Jacob was retreating. I placed Skyler under arrest at that time and told him he was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

When I interviewed [WITNESS #3] and [WITNESS #2], both parties stated that Jacob said that he was going to punch Skyler again after the initial punch. I charged Jacob with terroristic threats- misdemeanor, and battery.

Skyler’s knife was black in color with a gold seal with “S.W.A.T.” on it in black writing. His knife was seized and entered as evidence. Photos of Skyler’s injuries from the battery were taken; his injuries included a bloody chin from being punched in the face. The relationship between the two offenders was otherwise known, not making this family violence.
