BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. – A vigilant Bartow County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a U-Haul truck exiting the Cartersville Crossing Shopping Center at a suspicious hour and thwarted an active overnight fireworks heist. Authorities seized tens of thousands of dollars in pyrotechnics from inside the vehicle.
After spotting the truck in the middle of the night, the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver tried to flee, crossing the lot and then the street and finally striking a tree.
Officials revealed that three suspects vacated the vehicle and began running. A brief chase secured the 38-year-old driver, Adrian Jamar Daniels.
Law enforcement discovered $42,000 of pyrotechnics belonging to the Great Grizzly Fireworks Store.
Cartersville Police Captain Greg Sparacio stated, “It was loaded down with fireworks. Top to bottom, side to side, just an enormous amount of fireworks. You had sparklers, you had little poppers on the ground, everything up to the big ones, the mortars that go up in the air and create very big explosions.”
Almost all stolen items were returned to the store. Captain Sparacio said the owner “was ecstatic that he had most of his stuff back to sell and give everyone a magical Fourth of July.”
Daniels faces a myriad of charges, including theft by taking, theft by receiving, burglary, fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license, failing to obey a traffic control device, altering a tag with intent to conceal the vehicle’s identity, and obstruction. According to jail records, he was also charged with violating his probation and remained detained with a nearly $24,000 bond as of Wednesday night.
Authorities also arrested Sharina Victoria Jackson and charged her with a party to the crime of burglary. Records indicated that Jackson bonded out of jail.
Law enforcement continues to search for additional suspects. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Cartersville Police Department Criminal Investigative Division at 770-387-5690.
This investigation remains open and active.
