Bartow County (October 4, 2022) – The victim’s husband in a road rage incident was arrested after confronting the driver who he says ran his wife off the road and yelled obscenities at her.

On the above date, officers responded to Highland Pointe Subdivision, in the city of White, after Jamie Ferrel, the mother of Gavin Ferrel, 18, called 911 to report an altercation at her residence.

Jamie Ferrel stated that a neighbor, Michael Larry Davis, drove up to her house as her son and his girlfriend arrived home. Davis was upset that Gavin had allegedly ran his wife off the road for the second time. A portion of the fight was captured on a cell phone video, and only audio was captured on a dash cam video from Gavin’s vehicle.

Davis exited his vehicle and walked toward Gavin to ask him why he had run his wife off the road and called her a “bitch”. Gavin was argumentative and responded to Davis aggressively. Gavin then hits Davis in the face as the situation escalates. Davis tells Gavin that he “is gonna whoop his ass.”

Gavin’s mother came out of the house to try to intervene in the fight. Gavin continues instigating it even though his mother asks him to stop and go into the house. Ferrel’s father then exits the house to join the argument. He is insistent that they have dash cam videos in the vehicle. Davis asks them to review the footage for him, and they refuse. The father responds by screaming at Davis to get off his property. Davis was already standing in the street.

Davis left the residence and returned to his home, where he also called 911 to report the incident.

Gavin told officers that Davis came into his yard and shoved him first, and he responded in self-defense; however, neither video showed Gavin being pushed by Davis. Officers on the scene reviewed the videos but the recording did not start until after the alleged push.

The officers relocated to Davis’s house to hear what he says happened.

Officers spoke with Davis, who stated he drove to the residence to talk with Gavin’s parents. Gavin had come at him aggressively and tried to fight him. Davis stated that Gavin pushed him and then hit him in the face.

He said he had no intention of fighting a kid; he only wished to talk to his parents.

Davis was issued a criminal trespass warning. He was handcuffed and taken to Bartow County Jail on charges of simple battery and terroristic threats.

Gavin drives a black Ford Mustang GT, which has had numerous reports and complaints regarding reckless and erratic driving in the area. Multiple residents in the neighborhood have come forth with similar encounters with Gavin and the vehicle matching this description. According to several neighbors, prior complaints were also reported to the Sheriff’s Office regarding this matter but nothing is being done. The risk is still ongoing in the community.

The Highland Pointe neighborhood Facebook page has been a platform for numerous neighbors concerned for their safety. Gavin’s brother drives a vehicle that is a similar make and model. Two neighbors stated they had infant children in the car during prior road rage incidents involving the teen brothers. Neighbors say any attempt to resolve the issue with the family have failed.

Before this incident, Gavin’s father made a statement on the community Facebook page for anyone who has concerns about their son’s driving, to come over to his house and included his address. Other residents have approached the house previously too. Gavin’s mother stated that “people just want him to respond because they love attention and are jealous of his mustang’, said one homeowner.

On October 5, 2022, Davis was released on a $4000.00 property bond. As of this writing, the officer’s narrative states that he still has not received a copy of either of the requested videos from the victim in this case. The case against Davis is currently pending.
