On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at approximately 1324 hours, I was dispatched to 901 Joe Frank Harris Pkwy (Checkers) for a property damage report.
Upon my arrival, I spoke to the manager/complainant, identified as Ms. [WITNESS #1]. Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated a heavy set, older white male with brown hair and glasses driving a beige vehicle with tag # [REDACTED], struck two poles in the drive-thru causing over $500 of damage. Ms. [WITNESS #1] informed me that the accident was captured on video. A Polaris link was sent for the video to be uploaded. Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated an employee attempted to stop the vehicle but was unsuccessful.
After a GCIC inquiry, it was discovered the vehicle was identified as a beige 2014 GMC Terrain registered to Mr. Walter Burson. Mr. Burson fit the description of the male driving the vehicle. Ms. [WITNESS #1] stated she did wish to press charges. I viewed the footage and was able to identify Mr. Burson as the driver. I obtained warrants for Hit and Run (CE-0183605) and striking a fixed object (CE-0183606).
On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Paulding County Sheriffs were able to go to Mr. Burson’s residence and execute the warrants. Paulding County Sheriff’s Deputy met me at 11090 Cartersville Hwy (BIG-UN’S BISCUITS). I placed Mr. Burton into handcuffs in front of his body due to some medical issues he has. I checked the handcuffs for fit and double locked for safety. A search of Mr. Burson was conducted, yielding negative of weapons or contraband. Paulding County Sheriff Deputy was not able to provide pictures of the vehicle.
I placed Mr.Burson into the back of marked patrol vehicle which is search before and after transport. I transported Mr. Burson to 104 Zena Dr (Bartow County Jail). While en-route Mr. Burson asked questions about his case and before I answered the questions I read Mr. Burson Miranda Rights and he stated he understood and was still willing to answer questions. Mr. Burson stated he was in the area of Checkers, but did not go to Checkers. Mr. Burson denied causing any damage at any location. Mr. Burson was turned over to jail staff without incident.
The rear of my patrol vehicle was checked and cleared before shift and after transport.
