On September 1, 2025, at approximately 0700 hours, I, Sgt. Beltran was dispatched to [2100 BLOCK] Liberty Church Road in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, I made contact with the victim, identified as [VICTIM #1]. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised that her boyfriend, Christopher Batts, had picked her up a few days earlier from Griffin, Georgia. On the previous evening, they went downtown with friends for a night of drinking. Later, the group returned to Batts’ residence on Liberty Church Road, where they continued drinking and participated in drinking games around a bonfire.
Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that during the course of the game, one of the questions posed to Batts triggered past trauma for her, which led to her becoming upset and initiating a verbal argument. She further advised that at some point during the night, Batts became physically aggressive toward her.
While speaking with Ms. [VICTIM #1], I noted she was visibly distraught and appeared intoxicated. I observed visible bruising and red marks on her facial area, neck, and arms. When questioned about her injuries, Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated that Batts had choked her during the altercation, causing her to feel dizzy. EMS was requested and responded to the scene. Ms. [VICTIM #1] was medically evaluated and subsequently transported to the hospital.
When asked about Batts’ whereabouts, Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated he had left the residence in a white Ford sedan. While en route to the location, I had observed a white sedan pulled over by the Georgia State Patrol a short distance from the scene, with a white male subject in handcuffs. I advised dispatch to contact GSP and confirm the identity of the male subject. Dispatch later confirmed that the individual was Christopher Batts.
I then left the residence to make contact with GSP. Upon arrival, I made contact with Batts, who was seated in the back of a GSP patrol vehicle under arrest. Batts voluntarily provided a statement, explaining that the altercation began during the drinking game when he responded to a question with the word “Oklahoma,” which he believed triggered [VICTIM #1] emotionally. He stated that later in the evening, while they were engaging in sexual activity, [VICTIM #1] changed her mind and no longer wanted to continue. He claimed that she became physically aggressive, hitting him and grabbing his t*sticles.
After being read his Miranda rights, Batts admitted to striking [VICTIM #1] in the face, choking her, and biting her breast. He stated that he did not intend to cause harm and was attempting to defend himself, claiming that this was not the first time [VICTIM #1] had physically assaulted him. Batts acknowledged that he “might have gone a little too far.”
Batts displayed red marks on his body and had a bloody lip. He was placed under arrest by GSP for DUI charges and transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC). All interactions and observations were recorded on my department-issued body-worn camera. Batts will have aggravated assault charges taken out on him.
