On August 5, 2024, I was contacted by Director [REDACTED] of Animal Enforcement concerning an abandoned dog. The dog was abandoned on Woodfield Drive in Macon, GA, on July 27, 2024. I was informed that the incident was captured on a county-owned camera near the area. The video footage showed a white, early-model GMC Sierra pickup truck enter the dead end of Woodfield Drive. The subject got out of the driver’s side door and proceeded to the passenger rear door. The suspect removed the dog from the truck, abandoned it in the dead end, and fled the area.

After reviewing the incident’s footage with Macon-Bibb Code Enforcement Deputy Melvin Turner, I was able to obtain the vehicle’s tag and suspect description. The tag [REDACTED] came back to the truck on scene, and the owner was identified as David Lee Harris Jr.

The dog was picked up on July 28, 2024, by Animal Enforcement Agent [REDACTED]. [REDACTED], a vet tech in training, examined the dog on July 29, 2024. She noted several lacerations and puncture wounds on the chest that were infected. The dog’s left leg was swollen at the joint, and there was a severe ear infection in the left ear. After reviewing the evidence and interviewing the Code Enforcement Deputy who witnessed the animal being abandoned, I will be taking warrants for Harris for misdemeanor animal cruelty and animal abandonment.
