On 3/12/2025, I received an animal cruelty case for review. On 1/9/2025, Animal Enforcement was notified of an abandoned dog at [1400 BLOCK] Gray Highway, Macon, GA. ACO Strickland arrived and met with a Civil Sheriff’s Deputy, who was present for an eviction and dispossessory. Strickland spoke with the maintenance man, who stated that the tenant was Ethan Reynolds and that Reynolds had been gone from the apartment for two to three weeks.

Strickland made entry to the apartment and was immediately struck by a pungent odor of urine and feces. The thermostat inside was set to 85 degrees. The apartment was littered with feces, and the animal was noted to be dirty and reeked of urine and feces from long-term exposure. There was no food or water present in the apartment. Strickland provided water roadside, and the animal drank the bottle without taking a breath. Strickland then gave the animal food and observed it eating rapidly, which further indicated long-term neglect.

I reviewed the cruelty exam, where a vet tech in training noted that the animal was rated a 2 out of 9 on the Purina body condition scale, which is considered underweight for its breed and size. The animal was placed in BCAS for care and treatment. Efforts to contact Reynolds have been unsuccessful. Probable cause exists for animal cruelty and abandonment of a domesticated animal. I will seek arrest warrants for Reynolds.
