On Monday, November 18, 2024 at approximately 0607 hours. I Sgt. D. Inzar responded to [1800 BLOCK] Hardeman Ave. reference a possible domestic related aggravated assault incident. The call notes advised. The male subject was choking the female and the male has been stabbed by the victim. Upon my arrival on scene. I observed a heavy amount of blood near the inside doorway.
The female identified as [VICTIM #1] was crying and applying pressure to the chest area of the male subject who was positioned on the living room floor. I observed the living room furniture knocked over and moved around. The floor was covered in blood, however. The male subject was able to speak and kept repeating ” She didn’t do anything wrong “.
I advised EMS to enter and render care. I asked where the knife was that was used in the incident. The victim stated it was a small pink knife and was possibly underneath him. I did located the knife and secured it.
The male was identified as Leqavius Jamal Smith. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised. The incident stemmed from a argument between the two and he was upset about losing his job.
She asked him to leave due to him problems with his anger but, states. He has never put hands on her before. She goes on to say. He put his hands around her throat and choked slammed her on the bed in her room.
He then carried her by the neck into the living room and pressed her against the wall and then against the kitchen wall. She advises. He kept squeezing and she didn’t think he would let go so, she used the knife that she grabbed from her nightstand. Ms. [VICTIM #1] advised it was dark so she thought she stuck him in the arm.
He released her and began walking towards the front door. He then fell to the floor and she noticed all the blood and realized he was stabbed in the chest. She began to render aid.
The subject was then transported to Atrium by way of ambulance. I provided Ms. [VICTIM #1] with a victim pamphlet and advised the male subject will be charged with the offense of aggravated assault by strangulation. I will secure a valid warrant for the offense and the knife will be turned over to the crime lab.
