BIBB COUNTY, Ga. – A 22-year-old woman is facing several felony charges, including attempted murder, after authorities say a newborn baby was discovered inside a trash bag at a Macon home.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Alaynah Marie Rappuhn arrived at the emergency room at Piedmont Macon Hospital on Monday around 1 p.m. with severe bleeding. Deputies said her boyfriend had brought her to the hospital after noticing her condition at their home on Payton Street.
Before they left for the hospital, investigators said Rappuhn placed a trash bag on the back porch. Later, when the boyfriend returned to the house to retrieve personal items, he reportedly heard sounds coming from the bag. Inside, he discovered a baby boy wrapped in towels.
The infant was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is in stable but critical condition, officials said.
Deputies believe Rappuhn gave birth at the residence around 4:30 a.m. and then placed the baby in the bag hours later. She allegedly did not inform her boyfriend she had been pregnant or given birth and failed to alert hospital staff when she arrived for treatment.
Rappuhn was taken into custody Tuesday after being discharged from the hospital. She was booked into the Bibb County Detention Center and faces charges of criminal attempt to commit felony murder, first-degree cruelty to children, and reckless abandonment.
Her bond was denied.
