On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at approximately 0200 hours, I, Deputy Kile, responded to assist deputies working the downtown entertainment district in reference to a large disorderly crowd and fight in front of Hoops Bar and Grill, located at 477 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. Deputies on scene included Deputy Legodias and Deputy Mobley.
Upon my arrival, I observed a large crowd gathered in and around the roadway and notified dispatch that the crowd size was approximately 200 people. I then made contact with Deputy Legodias and observed him detaining a black female involved in an altercation. (Deputy Legodias was standing behind the female with his left arm around her neck, in a sort of headlock but not applying pressure.) Deputy Legodias advised that the female he was detaining and another female who had already been secured in the rear of Deputy Mobley’s patrol vehicle had been actively involved in a fight.
Due to the size of the crowd and the escalating situation, I began issuing loud verbal commands to the crowd members standing in the roadway to disperse and return to their vehicles. Multiple individuals in the crowd failed to comply with repeated lawful commands to leave the area. I then advised the crowd that anyone refusing to leave the area could be arrested and taken to jail.
At that time, a black male later identified as Mr. Marcell Williams began yelling statements including, “ain’t no jail,” along with profanity directed toward law enforcement that sounded like “fu*k the police.” Mr. Williams continued yelling while remaining in the crowd and refused to comply with commands to disperse. Based on Mr. Williams’ actions, I believed he was attempting to agitate the already disorderly crowd and escalate the situation further.
I approached Mr. Williams in an attempt to detain him, at which time he immediately began walking away from me. Mr. Williams then moved around a nearby tree and, when I attempted to close distance with him again, he suddenly fled on foot. Mr. Williams ran toward the alleyway near Visit Macon. Sgt. Hillman attempted to detain Mr. Williams; however, Mr. Williams pulled away and broke free, causing Sgt. Hillman to nearly fall to the ground.
Due to Mr. Williams actively fleeing and resisting lawful detention in the middle of a large hostile crowd, I transitioned to my department-issued Taser and deployed it in an effort to safely stop Mr. Williams from continuing to flee. The Taser deployment was effective, with the probes striking Mr. Williams in the back and left arm area.
As deputies attempted to secure Mr. Williams, members of the crowd began focusing their attention on Sgt. Hillman, Mr. Williams, and myself and started moving closer toward us, creating an additional officer safety concern. Mr. Williams was then placed into handcuffs without further incident. I removed the Taser probes from Mr. Williams and secured him in the rear of my patrol vehicle.
Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and evaluated Mr. Williams. Mr. Williams complained of lower back pain. After collecting Mr. Williams’ personal property and recovering the deployed Taser probes, Mr. Williams was transported to Atrium Navicent Emergency Room for medical evaluation and clearance.

During transport and while at the hospital, Mr. Williams repeatedly apologized for his actions and stated words to the effect of, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be doing stuff like that,” and, “You are a good officer and you are just doing your job.”
After being medically evaluated and cleared by hospital staff, Mr. Williams was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center for further processing on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Misdemeanor Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer.
