On 06/04/2026, I, Dep. Tre. Lewis responded to [3000 BLOCK] N. Ingle Place, Apartment [REDACTED], in reference to a possible home invasion and hostage situation.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch advised that the victim’s cousin, who resides in Atlanta, contacted 911 after receiving a Facebook Messenger message from the victim, [VICTIM #1], at approximately 4:34 a.m. The message stated that [VICTIM #1] was being held at gunpoint by her ex-boyfriend, Shemar Sutton, and that she had been told not to leave the residence or contact law enforcement. [VICTIM #1] instructed the cousin to call the police immediately.
Upon arrival, assisting deputies and I approached the apartment and attempted to make contact by knocking on the front door. [VICTIM #1] answered the door, appearing visibly distressed, fearful, and under extreme emotional stress. When asked what was occurring, she did not initially speak aloud. Instead, she whispered that “he is in the back bedroom on the right with a gun.” Based on the information provided and the immediate threat to life, deputies made entry into the residence. I announced our presence as the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and ordered Shemar Sutton to exit the bedroom with his hands visible. Sutton exited the bedroom unarmed and was immediately detained in handcuffs without further incident inside the residence.
While clearing the bedroom from which Sutton exited, deputies located a Taurus AED300654 9mm handgun. The firearm was secured as evidence.
[VICTIM #1] stated that Shemar Sutton had climbed onto her balcony and unlawfully entered her apartment. Once inside, Sutton pointed the firearm at her and ordered her not to leave the residence or contact law enforcement. [VICTIM #1] further stated that Sutton threatened to kill her if she attempted to leave or call the police.
While escorting Sutton to my patrol vehicle, Sutton became actively resistant. He repeatedly dropped his body weight to his knees and onto the ground to prevent deputies from placing him into the patrol vehicle. Sutton also kicked three assisting deputies and me, and attempted to head-butt another deputy. Due to Sutton’s continued resistance and assaultive behavior, additional units responded to assist. After continued verbal commands and physical restraint, Sutton ultimately complied and was secured inside the patrol vehicle. Sutton was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without further incident. The Taurus 9mm handgun, serial number AED300654, was submitted to the Bibb County Crime Laboratory as evidence.
