On August 8, 2025, I received a case to review concerning aggravated animal cruelty. ACE Manager [WITNESS #1] reported receiving a call from Northside Wesleyan Animal Hospital regarding a canine in critical condition. The animal was described as extremely ill, covered in fleas, anemic, and unable to stand.
Upon arrival at the hospital, it was observed that the canine was infested with thousands of fleas to the extent that its coat appeared black. The dog had no observable body fat, a bloated and distended abdomen, and was severely dehydrated. After conferring with the medical staff and our staff CVA, [WITNESS #2], [WITNESS #1] made the decision to humanely euthanize the animal due to the severity of its medical condition and suffering.
Following the euthanasia, [WITNESS #1] and [WITNESS #2] proceeded to [4500 BLOCK] Pinedale Drive to investigate the conditions where the animal had been housed. Upon arrival, they made contact with an individual identified as Graddick, who escorted them inside the residence and to the room where the animal had been kept.
The home was found to be in a state of disarray, with trash and debris scattered throughout. The specific bedroom where the animal had been confined was filthy, with significant urine, feces, and live fleas present. Fleas were observed throughout the residence. Graddick admitted to owning the dog and confirmed that it had been living at [4500 BLOCK] Pinedale Drive.
After leaving the residence, both [WITNESS #1] and [WITNESS #2] were covered in live fleas and had to use insect spray to remove the parasites from their clothing.
Based on the evidence collected, it is apparent that the animal was not being fed properly for its breed and size. It was anemic as a result of an overwhelming flea infestation, lethargic, and unable to hold its head upright due to the severity of the anemia. Graddick failed to provide the animal with adequate nutrition, basic veterinary care, and a clean and safe living environment. As a result of this prolonged neglect, the animal’s condition had deteriorated to a point where euthanasia was the only humane option.
Given these facts, I will be seeking an arrest warrant for Graddick on one count of Aggravated Animal Cruelty.
