On Sunday, 12/07/25, at approximately 10:56 hours, I, Deputy J. Hubbard #2359, was dispatched to the residence of [VICTIM #1], which was located at [100 BLOCK] Walnut St. The call was in reference to a Domestic Disturbance between Ms. [VICTIM #1] and her child’s father, Tavares Roberts.
As I was arriving on the scene, I witnessed Mr. Roberts leaving the scene. I proceeded to make contact with Ms. [VICTIM #1], who stated that she had just gotten into a physical altercation with her child’s father. I asked if that was him who just left. Once she confirmed that it was him, I attempted to contact Mr. Roberts. I made contact with Mr. Roberts at the Marathon Gas station on Walnut St, where I witnessed Mr. Roberts traveling while holding his newborn son in his arms and not properly in a child’s safety seat.
When I contacted Mr. Roberts, I advised him that the child needs to be in a car seat and that I would need him to return to the original incident location. Once we returned to the original incident location, I attempted to have Mr. Roberts step out of the vehicle to speak with him about the incident. Mr. Roberts then refused to get out of the car, as Deputies continued to attempt to remove Mr. Roberts from the vehicle while he was holding his son. While receiving verbal commands, Mr. Roberts placed his car in drive and tried to flee the scene. I quickly moved my marked patrol unit in front of his vehicle to prevent him from leaving.
While continuing to give verbal commands, Mr. Roberts then began to comply and unlocked his car after being advised that Deputies would break the window. Once the vehicle was unlocked, I opened the driver’s door, removed the child, and gave him to the mother. Once the child was in the mother’s custody, Deputies removed Mr. Roberts from the vehicle, placing him in custody.
Once in custody and the situation under control, Deputies searched the vehicle, locating a firearm. When running the gun, it was discovered that the firearm was confirmed stolen. While continuing to gather information on the situation, I contacted Ms. [VICTIM #1], who stated that she and Mr. Roberts had gotten into a verbal argument, which turned physical. When Ms. [VICTIM #1] was attempting to run away, Mr. Roberts tried to grab her, resulting in Ms. [VICTIM #1] receiving multiple clear and visible scratch marks and open wounds to her face and neck area. During the altercation, Mr. Roberts also took Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s phone, smashing it, rendering it unusable. Then, taking a patron’s alcohol bottle, throwing it through Ms. [VICTIM #1]’s rear passenger car window.
