On the stated date and time I was dispatched to the Post Road, Friendly express in reference to a possible intoxicated driver. As I got closer to the call dispatched informed me that the offender had also pulled a hatchet out towards the caller. When I arrived on scene the offender (Adam Phillips) was standing in front of the gas pumps closest to the store. When Adam saw that deputies had arrived, Adam then got on his knees and placed his hands behind his back. It was at this time that Adam was detained until more information could be provided. I then walked Adam to my patrol vehicle and Adam sat in the back of my patrol vehicle.

I spoke with the complainant [VICTIM #1] who stated that he saw Adam get out of his vehicle and he was staggering as he walked into the store. When Adam came back out [VICTIM #1] stated that he asked Adam if he was drunk. [VICTIM #1] stated that it was at this time a verbal argument pursued and Adam at one point pulled at a hatchet in a threatening manner towards [VICTIM #1]. The hatchet was later located in the passenger floorboard of Adams truck.

When I spoke with Adam he stated that he had gotten off from work at around 0200 in the morning. Adam stated that he went home and when he woke up he then went to the store. Adam stated that he walked into the store and bought food, lottery tickets and monster drink that contained 6% alcohol. Adam stated that he did drink two of the monsters while he was sitting in his truck playing the lottery. Adam then stated that when [VICTIM #1] approached him, opened his vehicle door and took his keys. Adam stated that he was stepping out of his vehicle when the hatchet fell out of his truck and Adam then picked up the hatchet to put it back into his truck. As Adam was giving his statement I did notice that he was slurring his speech and did appear to be intoxicated to some degree.

I then tried to watch the camera footage at the store from this incident, but the manager at the store stated that the camera does not work for that side of the store.

Adam was then informed that he was going to be arrested for Disorderly Conduct. He was then transported to the Brantley County Jail. Once we arrived at the jail, adam asked me how he could go about trying to press charges on [VICTIM #1]. I informed him that I would be doing a report for this incident and that he could take the report to the Magistrate court and see what they could do.
