On July 3rd, 2025 at 2348 hours, I, Investigator Faith Cupp, was dispatched to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Dowell Avenue in reference to a stabbing.

Upon arrival, I observed [VICTIM #1] (Victim) lying on the floor near the front door of the residence, responsive, with visible bleeding from the chest area. I grabbed a blanket which was near the area which [VICTIM #1] was lying on and I applied pressure to his chest injury until EMA arrived. While waiting for EMA to arrive, I asked [VICTIM #1] what happened. [VICTIM #1] stated that his live in girlfriend, Theresa Mells (Suspect)/ had stabbed him. [VICTIM #1] stated that Mells stabbed him because she was upset that he caught her sleeping with another man in their home. [VICTIM #1] stated that he was sitting on a chair across from Mells and that he got up and walked towards her and she stabbed him and left the residence in a Tan/Brown Ford Taurus. Upon EMA’s arrival, [VICTIM #1] was transported to AU Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia for treatment.

I took numerous photos of the crime scene and attempted to locate the knife Mells used to stab [VICTIM #1]. I was unable to locate the knife, therefore, I secured the front door of the residence by locking the bottom lock from the inside and closing the door. I confirmed that the door was secured by attempting to open the door land it was secure.

I made contact with BCSO and asked for them to run vehicles matching the description that [VICTIM #1] gave and they were able to locate a 2006 Tan Ford Taurus bearing a Georgia tag of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] registered to Theresa Mells in the area of E 7th Street/Schwank Way at 0043 hours. Based on this information, I advised WPD units to respond to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Dowell Avenue in case Mells was back at the residence. Officer H. Mays arrived on scene at Dowell Avenue and located Mells standing outside of her vehicle. I arrived on scene and placed Mells in handcuffs/ introduced myself to her, and advised her that she would be transported to WPD CID to be speak about the incident which occurred between her and [VICTIM #1]. Officer T. Mitchell transported Mells to WPD C1D.

Upon arrival at WPD CID, I began an interview with Mells by gathering her information. I then read Miranda rights to Mells and she agreed to speak about the incident which occurred between her and [VICTIM #1]. Mells stated that she was sitting on a couch in the living room when [VICTIM #1] came into the residence trying to look inside her shirt and inside her buttock area to see if she had been messing with another man. Mells stated that [VICTIM #1] was accusing her of cheating on him with another man. Mells stated that she was growing frustrated with everything that [VICTIM #1] was doing to her and so she grabbed a knife from the end table that was next to her and held it in her hand. Mells stated that she always has this knife on that particular end table. Mells stated that [VICTIM #1] ran up on her and caused himself to be cut with the knife. Mells stated that she did not intentionally stab [VICTIM #1]. Mells stated that when [VICTIM #1] “stabbed himself”, she put the knife back into the kitchen into the knife set and she left the residence to go to her cousins house. Mells stated that her cousin was not home, so she went to Race to purchase a pack of cigarettes and then went back home where she was met with WPD officers.

Both Mells and [VICTIM #1] admitted that they had been drinking alcohol.

After her statement, I advised Mells that she would be charged with the listed charges and transported to BCDC to be booked. Officer T. Mitchell transported Mells to BCDC without incident and she was booked. I, Investigator Cupp, applied for warrants in reference to this incident.
