[NARRATIVE #1 on February 20, 2023]
On Monday, February 20th, at approximately 1058 hours I was dispatched to [200 BLOCK] W Williams Ave regarding a trespassing call. The caller advised her neighbor called her stating someone was trying to break into her home. Another caller stated someone was in her backyard trying to steal items. I was close to the residence and proceeded routine flow of traffic.
Upon arrival on the scene, the caller was in the front yard pointing (being that she was a Spanish speaker) to her back gate trying to indicate someone was in her backyard. Officer Mckenzie and I went towards the back gate. I went around the fence line in the event the suspect attempted to run once we entered the area.
I Heard over radio traffic they had a suspect in custody and proceeded back to the front of the house. The suspect was identified as Christopher Willett Field. Officer Mathis Discovered Field when he went to exit the back door of the residence. See Ofc Mathis’ supplement for more detail.
I then spoke to the home renter, [VICTIM #1]. Her neighbor was there to help translate due to her language barrier. She explained she was in her home and heard some noise in her backyard and possibly saw two people back there. A protective sweep of the home and outside area was conducted, and only one suspect existed.
While checking the back yard I observed a panel of fence missing from behind her shed which is where she believed Field had entered from. I asked [VICTIM #1] if she wanted to press charges on Field and she stated yes she did. We informed Field he was being arrested for Criminal Trespass and the homeowner wanted to press charges.
I contacted Field’s daughter to inform her of her father being arrested. While on the phone she advised her father he was not welcome back at her home. I provided [VICTIM #1] with a case card and informed her a report was being done and how to access the report once done.

[NARRATIVE #2 on February 20, 2023]
On the above stated date and time, I responded to assist at the above stated address in reference to an unknown subject trying to enter someone’s home. I was near the residence, and responded without the use of my emergency lights or sirens.
Upon my approach to the residence, I observed multiple individuals outside of the residence, appearing to be a family, in a concerned state. I immediately recognized a language barrier, as none of the family could speak English, only Spanish. As responding officers approached the fence from the east side of the home, I was brought into the home by the owner with her consent, in order to access the fenced in backyard.
I observed through the window the backyard area, and did not observe anyone in the area I could see. I instructed the family to stand back, and I opened the back door to the yard, in an effort to “let it breathe” if any threats or suspects were armed behind the door. As the door opened I immediately recognized a white male, identified earlier as Christopher Fields, from our previous call with him (see case # 2023-00004154). I instructed Fields to turn away from me and place his hands behind his back. Field’s was handcuffed to the rear, double locked, and checked for fit.
Fields was brought to the front of the property, to the front of a patrol car. Fields advised he was looking for his son, and was not trying to break into the property. Fields advised he was suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms, as he was now 28 days sober, after drinking a “handle” for over twenty years. This was evident by his shaking/tremors.
Fields was patted down for weapons. Officers advised Fields he was under arrest for Criminal Trespass as the owner of the property wanted to file charges. Fields was searched incident to arrest. My back seat of my patrol vehicle was searched prior to transport and after transport for contraband and personal items. Fields was seat belted in, placed in the back right seat of my patrol vehicle.
I advised dispatch of my beginning mileage, and Fields was released to staff without incident at Camden County Sheriff’s Office. This was the extent of my involvement.
