CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. – Carrollton Police officers arrested the former CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Carroll County executive director, Staci Cook after an audit revealed that she had stolen at least $7,000 from the nonprofit organization that supports foster children. Facing a theft by taking charge, Cook will spend 1 to 10 years in jail if she is convicted.

Carrollton Detective Brandon Wilson explained, “The executive director had gotten extra paychecks, something they found initially.” He added, “There were Venmo transactions. People would donate to CASA; she would transfer them from CASA’s Venmo account to her personal Venmo account, and later her bank account.” When CASA Carroll County performed an audit, officials discovered “excessive” and “unusual” spending.

CASA Carroll County Chair Kylie Carroll stated, “Carroll County CASA no longer employs Ms. Cook, and there is an ongoing investigation with the Carrollton Police Department. As a Board, we are focused on positively moving forward according to the purpose of the organization. We have great confidence in the leadership of our newly appointed Executive Director and are committed to serving the foster children within our community.”

This is an active investigation.
