On January 11, 2026 at approximately 04:01 hours, I, Officer Birdyshaw, was dispatched to 95 Liberty Road, the Pilot Gas Station, in reference to a dispute which had already occurred.
Upon my arrival, with body camera activated, I observed the complainant, Joshua Hanson, to have sustained multiple lacerations and contusions, with bruising and discoloration, to his face, along with blood and substantial swelling visible on his left cheek. Joshua was seated in front of the Pilot gas station at the time of my arrival.
After initial observations of Joshua, I asked him if he needed EMS to which he refused. Joshua advised he was “driving a girl home,” the female was later identified as [WITNESS #1], and stated “I guess she didn’t want to go home with me.” Joshua advised [WITNESS #1] was drunk and he “Was trying to do her a favor and take her to wherever she wants to go. My house. Her house. Right.” Joshua advised the two were previously at a house party, and he had brought her to the pilot so she could use the restroom.
Joshua advised he was in a workplace relationship with [WITNESS #1], and advised he wanted a report “because I don’t want people to say I was kidnapping my manager.” Joshua advised he tried to exit the vehicle when the other male involved, later identified as Aric Wensauer, “slammed the door shut on me.” Joshua advised, before Aric hit him, Aric stated “She’s deserves to be with me.” Joshua advised he only wanted a report for documentation purposes only and did not wish to press charges.
I relocated to the gas pumps to speak with Aric. Aric advised his glasses were broken during the incident. I observed Aric to have a contusion to his nose, with bruising and discoloration, a laceration to the right side of his nose, which presented with dried blood around the area, bruising to his right eye, and blood in his right eye. I also observed a laceration to Aric’s right hand, on the knuckle of his index finger.
Aric advised [WITNESS #1] to be his ex-girlfriend and she called him approximately a half hour before his arrival to the Pilot gas station advising she would need his help and that Aric had her location. Aric advised he “took it upon myself,” to travel to [WITNESS #1]’s location. Aric advised he does not normally get calls from [WITNESS #1] this late at night and he was able to tell she was “clearly intoxicated.” Aric advised [WITNESS #1] to be a “drunk.” Aric advised he arrived to the Pilot and observed [WITNESS #1]’s car to be located in the first parking stall to the left of the Pilot’s front door.
Aric advised he entered the Pilot to get a water and Celsius, and when he approached [WITNESS #1]’s car, was able to identify Joshua siting in the driver seat of the vehicle. Aric advised, after exiting the Pilot, he approached [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle and was able to observe [WITNESS #1] crying. Aric approached the driver’s side door to speak with Joshua and develop an understanding of the situation. Aric advised Joshua had attempted to put [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle in reverse and drive away which led to Aric reaching into [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle and turning the vehicle off. Aric advised Joshua reached up and grabbed Aric’s hooded sweatshirt and pulled him into the car and started to hit him, Aric advised he began to hit back in self-defense.
Aric advised Joshua pulled his sweatshirt over his head, smashed his glasses, and continued to hit him, until Aric was able to separate from Joshua. Upon his separation from Joshua, Aric advised he retreated to his vehicle and retrieved his firearm while Joshua climbed out of [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle through the passenger side door and entered the Pilot. Aric advised he entered into the driver’s seat of [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle and began to circle the parking lot of the Pilot until officers arrived on scene. Aric advised he did not wish to press charges.
I relocated to speak with [WITNESS #1], but due to her emotional state and degree of intoxication, I was unable to gather any substantial information from her.
I relocated to the interior of the Pilot where CCTV footage showed Aric approach [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle on the driver side and begin speaking with Joshua and [WITNESS #1] at approximately 03:55 hours. I observed Aric lean down onto the driver’s side door to speak with Joshua before Aric reached into the vehicle. The CCTV footage jumps between 03:56:13 hours and 03:56:36 hours. Due to this approximate 23 second delay with the camera footage, I was unable to observe which party made the initial physical contact.
Aric and Joshua continue to fight in the driver’s side window of the vehicle until approximately 03:56:58 hours, at which time Aric is able to separate and retreats to his vehicle to procure his firearm. At 03:57:06 hours, Joshua exits the vehicle through the passenger side door and leaves camera view. Aric returns to [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle to retrieve his belongings at 03:57:25 hours, before returning to his vehicle at 03:57:56 hours.
Cpl. Cano advised he read text messeges between [WITNESS #1] and Aric. In which [WITNESS #1] was texting Aric stating she was in fear of getting hit.
I relocated to speak with [WITNESS #1] and determine whether she wished to leave the scene with Joshua or Aric. [WITNESS #1] advised she wished to leave the scene with Aric. Aric and [WITNESS #1] left the scene in [WITNESS #1]’s vehicle.
I relocated to speak with Joshua and determine how he was leaving the scene, to which he advised his father had arrived on scene to provide him a ride home.
Due to neither party wishing to press charges, this case will not be investigated further.
This report was requested for documentation purposes only.
