On April 16, 2023, at 4:30 pm, Deputy C. Thompson, 2418, while on uniform patrol with the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office, was dispatched to [60 BLOCK] Harvey Lane Saint George, Georgia, about a bleeding kid from his nose. I asked dispatch who was the caller, and they advised me they wished to remain anonymous.
I arrived at the residence and spoke to [WITNESS #1], and he advised me that [VICTIM #1] (10 y/o) was hit in the face by his father, Dustin Yarbrough, and caused his nose to bleed. I then spoke to [VICTIM #1], who was shirtless, and I noticed dried blood on his stomach, nose, and left hand. [VICTIM #1]’s nose was not actively bleeding anymore.
[VICTIM #1] told me that he was sleeping with his father, Dustin, last night, and Dustin grabbed his wrist and moved it. [VICTIM #1] then advised me Dustin kissed him on the side of his abdomen. [VICTIM #1] thought Dustin was still asleep and that he mistook him for his girlfriend.
[VICTIM #1] then went on to tell me that he came over to [WITNESS #1]’s house, his grandfather, and told them. It got back to Dustin, and he came over to confront [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] told me he was sitting in a chair in the kitchen when his father, with a flat palm, hit him straight in the face, and his nose started bleeding. [VICTIM #1] told me that it hurt really bad.
I spoke to [WITNESS #1], and he told me that Dustin was getting in his face and did push his face with his hand, and [VICTIM #1] started bleeding.
I spoke to [WITNESS #2], who was there, and she told me she was in the back bedroom and could hear a commotion going on and Dustin yelling.
I spoke to [WITNESS #3], and he advised me that Dustin was yelling at [VICTIM #1] in the kitchen, and Dustin pushed [VICTIM #1]’s face, and it started bleeding. I asked if he hit or pushed his face. [WITNESS #3] told me he wasn’t sure, but it was an open palm to his face. Nobody wanted to write me a written statement.
I then went next door to [60 BLOCK] Harvey Lane, where Dustin lives, and knocked on the door, and nobody was home. I then called Sgt. J Floyd 2416 and had him enroute to me.
Pictures were taken of [VICTIM #1] and the blood on the kitchen floor. Sgt. J. Floyd then arrived and called D.F.A.C.S. Dustin, then appeared from the yard of [60 BLOCK] Harvey Lane. He told us he walked to the river. We asked him what had happened, and he advised us that his son was accusing him of bad stuff and that his son was lying.
Dustin advised he pushed [VICTIM #1] in the forehead with three fingers and told him to look at him. Dustin denied pushing [VICTIM #1] in the face with a flat palm. Dustin informed us that his son has nosebleeds all the time.
Dustin was then placed under arrest for O.C.G.A. 16-5-70 Cruelty To Children. His hands were placed behind his back, double-locked, and checked for fit. Dustin became irritate, yelling at [WITNESS #1], saying he was going to “F*ck him up.”
I then placed Dustin in the back seat of my patrol vehicle. When I was leaving the residence with Dustin, we passed by [WITNESS #1], and Dustin yelled through a closed window, “I’m going to f*cking kill you.” Dustin was then transported to the Charlton County Jail and released to the jail staff.
