On January 6, 2026, while in my department-issued uniform and operating a properly marked police vehicle, I responded to the Shell Gas Station located at 50 Tanger Outlets Blvd regarding a possible incident of Public Indecency.
While en route, dispatch advised that the suspect — described as a Black male wearing a black shirt and gray basketball shorts — had left the location and was walking toward the McDonald’s on Benton Blvd. Officers C. Smith and Cpl. Alberts contacted the witness on scene, obtained a photograph of the suspect, and reviewed video surveillance that showed the suspect committing the offense of Public Indecency.
I canvassed several businesses on the same side of Benton Blvd as McDonald’s, looking for a suspect matching the description in the photograph. While speaking with the clerk at Buff City Soap, she stated that they had not been busy but that a “strange” male had just left the store. She described him as wearing black clothing, a backpack, and gray shorts, and pointed toward the end of the shopping center.
I proceeded in that direction and entered Michaels at 260 Pooler Parkway, where I observed a male matching the suspect description. I asked the male whether he had recently been at the Shell gas station, and he said he had. I requested that he step outside, at which time I advised him that he was being detained and placed him in handcuffs. After additional officers arrived, I informed the male that he was under arrest for Public Indecency and read him the Miranda warning. He stated he understood and agreed to speak. When asked about the incident, he denied mast*rbating but stated he was “just showing it.”
A search of his person revealed a Georgia driver’s license identifying him as Abdu Arya. Mr. Arya. He was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle. Ofc. Wallace completed a Criminal Trespass notice for Buff City Soap relating to Mr. Arya.
I met with the complainant, [WITNESS #1], who confirmed that a male entered the store, sat down, and began manipulating his exposed genitals in view of employee [VICTIM #1], who was working in the food area. Ms. [VICTIM #1] informed Mr. [WITNESS #1], who then contacted the police. Mr. [WITNESS #1] advised that the initial responding officers were shown the surveillance video. Both Mr. [WITNESS #1] and Ms. [VICTIM #1] stated they wished to pursue prosecution. They were issued Pooler Municipal Court subpoenas for March 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The picture obtained showed Mr. Arya with his genitals exposed.
I transported Mr. Arya to the Chatham County Detention Center and released him to jail staff without incident. Mr. Arya was issued a bond of $1,450.00 and a Pooler Municipal Court date of March 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
